Awesome Double

Took me ages, but looked at Neptune and Uranus last night! Amazing to see the outermost planet in the solar system! (Although, I'm all for Pluto being a planet - but I don't think my 8" dob will make searching for that little guy worth-while!) The sky was a little hazy last night and a bit bright for some reason, but Neptune was a definite blue-ball in a 9mm EP with a 2 x barlow; it seemed to get a little distorted with my 6mm Orion Edge, probably due to conditions...happy to finally see it!

Good hunting Shaun. It is mind blowing thinking about the length of time that the light has travelled to reach the back of our eyes. I will be heading out tonight to track down these planets and some other faint objects. I have read that it is possible to see Neptune's largest moon. My charts are printed and the sky is clear, so fingers crossed.
