Venus

A quick Venus from earlier this evening, when the seeing was (unusually for this time of year) 'existent'. Well undersampled but enough for a quick look. The dark area, especially left of centre, was evident visually through a Wratten #47 @200x

Hi Murko,

Looks pretty good for a "quick look".

Impressive for a “quick look”. Venus is certainly shining brightly in the evening sky.

Interesting image Mirko, thanks for posting. May have to have a try at Venus with my W47 filter and 180 Mak, if it is possible to image differences in the cloud shadings with that filter.

Thanks guys, I hadn't been able to capture any noteworthy detail for a long time, and even this shot really had to happen quickly with more cloud (what else) approaching. So there was no time to get an image through the #47, or the V band, or with the homemade fused-silica barlow I plan to use with the Dob to get better sampling, but which has yet to be tested in various ways. Yes the violet/dark blue filter really does show some shading visually, and via camera. Definitely worth a try.

Thanks Leo and David
She's getting closer again now so hoping for some more good views in the coming months. Also looking forward to more nightside thermal imaging next year.

Very cool - Venus rarely imaged but always intriguing. Nice presentation of the cloud structure.
It’s certainly escaped me as it’s blocked by my shed roof.

Well done!
