Now im getting better and finding and focusing on different things i am currently taking photos with my iphone and a small digital camera and im lookin at upgrading.
I am looking at these two cameras and am wondering if the 1100d is good enough not to have to spend an extra few hundred on the 550d.
I will be using it for planetary and deep space photography.
As much as i would like to buy a ccd i cant really justify it to my family and if i did i would probably upgrade my telescope as well so its not worth the hassles.
i probably will use it for regular photography as well though
what about getting a second hand canon on ebay and then removing the IR filter yourself?
Even without a cooling mod, the IR filter mod makes a difference from images i've seen and you can take pics of the kids (with an external filter on), and you won't break the warranty. they go for between $220 and $300 or so.
I'm getting a qhy8 just for that reason and the fact that you don't need darks.
I don't know if there will be discernible difference in astro images from a 550d and 1100d, you could search for images taken with unmodded 1100's and 550's and compare.
also depends on your location. if its dark enough, almost any model should give you decent results. LP plays an important part whichever camera you get.
yeh, ive been looking around for a 2nd hand one but havnt been lucky yet, as for light pollution my house is on the edge of a national park so there is a reasonably low amount of light pollution
