Being watched

Update,

Here is a few more pics from our recent Trip.

Leon - We are very lucky to live in this country. It is truly beautiful and I can see why you keep going back to the outback. Australians should experience the proper bush at least once in their lifetimes. As a 17 year old It gave me a genuine sense of this land and its history. Definitely influenced my outlook on things.

Steven, Thanks for your comments. As for the ceiling of the cave, it is just porous sandstone with mineral pebbles which capture the light well. Hence the glowing appearance.

Enjoy

Hi all,

Just returned from a fantastic trip to central Australia and Darwin. Had not been back to these regions since I travelled and worked my way round this big old country as a 17 year old in 1989. My wife's first trip to the outback and she was simply in awe. Helps one appreciate the origins and power of the Dreamtime.

Here is a snap taken on the walk around the base of Uluru. Truly an amazing place to take photos. Even a hack like me can get some decent shots.

I particularly liked the contrasts of the ochre colours effected by direct and reflected light.

Hope you like

Regards Heath

Cheers Warren,

We had an organised night out under the stars with a sit down dinner and a short and very basic guide of the night sky with one of the local astronomers. It's called the sounds of silence. Not cheap, but a wonderful evening none the the less. The guest speaker had a couple of telescopes set up so that everyone could have a look. Moon was full not long after nightfall so washed us out a bit but still had reasonable views of Saturn. Before moon rise the sky out there is black as black! Truly envious

Heath, you are dead right mate the outback is just so spectacular, we travel it constantly and love the vast areas of no civilization and every changing landscapes.

Uluru and Kings Canyon were just magnificent, great image mate.

Leon

Nice work Heath,
The thing I like about the bush is the crisp clear air that tends to make your images leap of the screen at you, its that see for miles type of air and I guess thats why the outback can be so great for astro work.

Thanks for showing them.

Thanks Bartman and Nico. I'm far from good when it comes to photography. Having a good camera helps immensely. It's the landscape that does all the work. By the way "Being watched" refers to the little head looking across at me from the gully opposite the cave. I'm sure there would a great dreamtime story attached to him...

I thought the scenery looked familiar! Been going through photos with my Dad that he captured at Uluru and the tree in shot #7 was very familiar indeed. Great captures Heath!

Good pick up on recognising a tree Shelley! they are quite unique aren't they. An amazing part of the world, often overlooked by Australians as a destination to holiday in.

Cheers Heath

Nice set Heath and especially #1. We did our travels in the early 90s and I was especially blown away by Uluru. We'd been to so many amazing places I couldn't imagine that it would be that much more extraordinary, but it was. Thanks for sharing your travels.
