Eta Carina Neb

Here's what will hopefully be the last image from my AT65-EDQ using my trusty but old and annoying Canon 300D. The adapters for my Nikon D5100 still haven't arrived yet but I couldn't resist spending a night outside imaging through the shocking light pollution of Belconnen.

Mixture of 20 second (ISO 400) and 30 second (ISO 200) subs for a total of 30 minutes exposure (this was an attempt to control streaking from poor polar alignment).

Not the greatest framing and a beast to get colour balanced. Hope you like it all the same.

Cheers,
Cam

Cam that's a nice image with some great detail. If you can balance some of that red out it would really pop.

I don't know whether I can. The background is balanced in RGB - the background is a perfect grey. I'm pretty sure the light pollution has nerfed this in an unrecoverable way.

I've given a repro a go. If you could give me any pointers it'd be much appreciated.

Second image is def better IMHO. More depth in the detail and more subtle definition.

the image is wide field. With Canon. And Canon 300D. it is very nice, at least to me. I prefer the first. I use Canon and I feel it boost the red color. I see photos of Eta Nebula with many different color: some full red, others full blue. With color camera is very difficult to equalize the color channels.

Thanks for the feedback guys. It's a modified camera too, so that really boosts the red channel, though I'm imaging through some shocking light pollution here and I think that's the real reason the colours just look a bit poked.

Cheers,
Cam

some shocking light pollution here
I have this problem here and the solution to minimize it was to use skyglow filter.

Perhaps you can use a new WhiteBalance file with the camera. With this modified camera to shot terrestrial is necessary this new whitebalance. Why not try this resource with the sky ?

Thanks Jorge, good thinking on the custom white balance.
