Testing the near completed Dob drive last night, the sky was clear but the atmosphere wasn't the best, I managed to get 3 recordings out of 6 of Jupiter. The time, as near as I am able to estimate was 6.45 pm and Jupiter nearly over-head. The bump or whatever you wish to call it on the North Eastern limb - 2.o'clock - appears on two and possibly three of the AVI recordings and most prominant on the third, attached. The three in question were recorded about 30 seconds apart and each 140 frames stacked .
The question: Is this an alusion or something real?
Ran your time (UT+8) through Jupiter 2, and at about 6:30 WST last night, Europa finished transit, so seems you've got Europa emerging, + the shadow (dark spot). Well done!
Here’s my embarrassing image from the same session. Heaps of onion rings as I forgot to re-adjust the camera setting in K3CCDTools after closing IC Capture (my usual camera control program). I wasn’t going to post if ‘cos of the ignominy of being such a pratt!
I have been trying to witness a transit since May and have either had cloudy nights or other engagements preventing me from seeing one. Congratulations on a fine photograph.
Thanks to all who replied to my request for: JUPITER WHAT IS IT. I'm thrilled to think that I managed to record something without knowing how! I only wish itr were clearer and sharper but you cannot make a silk purse etc.!
