Hi Simon . Be sure to checkout the search feature of the forums as well. Most of the usual newbie Q's have been asked and answered many times and you'll find a lot of usefull info

Welcome Simon!

What are the skies like in Blacktown? Blackskies? (Sorry, couldn't resist).

Like the other guys have said, feel free to post any questions. I am still a relative newbie, and believe me, I have been GREATLY assisted by what others have told me on this forum. The thing I would really encourage you to do, if possible, is to meet up with some other astro-nerds for some "team viewing" in your area. I have learnt the most by checking out what other people do in the field.

Rod

Ah Simon,

Half the fun is not knowing where or what your looking at and enjoying the feeling that you discovered it yourself. Having said that I to will inevitably sucumb to the ease of some form of Goto or digital setting circle device eventually.

Enjoy the forum i hope you learn heaps.

Welcome Simon. As others have stated, ask away if you have any questions. O.K. Enjoy. L.

simon!

How did you hear about us?

There's a few other IceInSpace members around the west Sydney area, i'm sure you could arrange a local meetup and do some observing, give you a chance to look through some different (and bigger) scopes and talk all things astronomy.

Come back often!

Welcome Simon,

I got back into visual astronomy with exactly the same type of scope you have. It really opened my eyes to the universe (especially if you have a chance to use it under dark pristine skies) after my firstscope, a 40mm Celestron Cometron back in the 80'. Hope you have fun with it!

Darren
