Vela

Like most of the country I'm stuck in COVID lockdown (and unlike most of the the country fully COVID vaccinated...
but we'll leave discussion on asinine policy for another time)....anyway...a good excuse to tinker with old data.

The link is here

Hope you enjoy the view.

Very kind comments.

This was taken earlier in the year with a very similar rig to Greg's recent excellent Sag-triplet image.

That focal length seems to work well with the IMX455 pixel sizes....but I am about to take my AP155 out of mothballs to see what the QHY600M can do with a bit more aperture.

LOL. indeed it's not exactly difficult to get perfect stars at 500mm or so.

BTW a pox on your dark skies...they shouldn't be allowed...

But assuming dark skies are actually useful, I now have a new "portable" mount!

It arrived last week from some small, probably, tin-pot company in Illinois, USA. (see attached)...who did offer some nice steak knives with the deal.

Apparently with perfect tracking due fancy optical encoders...(yeah, sure )

It might entice me to go west in search of similar poxy skies

A superb Vela SNR Peter to be sure. With your new mount you could travel to dark skies and get even more data in this object

Ah..yes...travel...

Even if you are fully vaccinated in the land of Oz 'tis but a dream.

(You might guess... I am upset with state of affairs and lack of agitation
from the Hoi-Polloi in Oz who are clearly not understanding the need to get into the faces of our politicians if they want reasonable freedoms to travel)

Very spectacular. Vibrant colours and great detail with that wonderful wide view.

Congrats on your Mach 2. An ideal companion for the 130.

Greg.

Ta Greg. BTW that's my AP155 with 4" focuser on the Mach2...the mount
was seriously heavier than I expected!

wait... 45 each for colour or for the lot? Either way... that's very little time on this structure. Very impressed. What an amazing sensor this camera has.

Nice image, nice new toys too!

BTW are the star haloes intentional?
I'm curious as this is a look I've been intrigued by lately

Thanks Andy. I used a Baader NB set at the time which do indeed kick out halos. These have been recently replaced by AstroDons...hence a re-shoot will probably take place next year.

Ah, yes, the lovely home Reno backdrop...it's been going on for weeks...also makes the cost of my toys look like chump change...but hopefully will be finally complete by the month's end.

15 minutes each colour was all that was needed to get reasonable star colours.
