No one can convince me that putting a tax on CO2 will reduce emisions.
The only way to reduce CO2 emissions is to physically reduce them.
No matter what we do population growth will out strip any measures we implement, other than drastic solutions like nuclear.
Question, why is Australia so concerned about Carbon emissions when we only produce 1% of the total global output? Yes I know that per capita we use our fair share of energy, at the top of the list I think. What I don't understand, people are trying to reduce the amount of energy they use in their homes, using energy saver globes turning of lights, solar power, solar hot water, fuel efficient cars ect. people are more energy efficient than they have ever been. Shouldn't the people be rewarded for their efforts? not penalised.
Maybe this is why our power bills are going up. The power companies are not selling as much power and the shareholders are getting stroppy.

We should be at America's throat and China's, they are the biggest polluters on this planet. Oh we couldn't upset America heaven forbid. And China they might not buy our coal.

This thread is getting boring now (meant nicely) and while there have been some big climate change/carbn tax/price threads in the past on IIS I didn't really get involved in them, this was my few posts worth on the topic. While some of you may think I am passionate about this carbon Tax or that I am a lefty, a tree hugger, a do gooder or a greeny etc...I'm not really ... what ever happens, happens and I love you all regardless

Ciao

Mike

Philip,

You are absolutely correct! The U.S. is only 5% of the world’s population and uses 30% of its resources. I am ashamed. *bows head*

Currently I am starting a degree in environmental biology and I am concerned about the globes current situation. The carbon tax to me seems like a way for government agencies to make money. For companies that are already in compliance with a certain output, they can sell their remaining CO2 emission balance to someone else. I don't get that part. So instead of making a company comply it just allows them to spend a little more cash to continue their output. Doesn't that defeat the purpose of lowering emissions to begin with. Just seems like a bunch of smoke and mirrors to me.

Disclaimer: I didn't read all 9 pages so forgive me if a repeated something etc. lol
