Really interesting feedback guys. This product really does excite some of you, as is evident from the highly mixed feedback and dialogue.
This GS design is not a true RC, if you want a true RC you can only make it with premier quality componentry, and with respect there is not a single component from this GS system that I would consider for a real premium quality RC project.
Seriously guys, it's like comparing a "Great Wall Ute" with a "12 Cylinder Ferrari" - it's not within a billion light years of being a fair comparison.
I would not even consider trialling such a system, the best thing that GS make is their cheapo Dobs, and I think they are ordinary, I progressed past that quality when I was 16 years old.
Seriously guys, 0.27 That is not a Strehl result, it's an insult to astronomy !
Clear skies.
Yep heard all about the Ferrari Chris. It has had problems with baffling etc that a really expensive scope should have. So far I have not seen an image out of Marcus's scope. You make statements about the GSO scope is not a true RC and well you are completely wrong. Stop trying to sell scopes in this thread please. It is really disrespectful.
While I appreciate that they may not be the best optics, they are an affordable way of expanding ones interest in this hobby.
Graham.. GSO might still be playing catch up with some mechanical aspects of their OTA's but their optics don't deserve the same criticism. imho) once the mechanical issues are resolved, they will serve as a photographic instrument at performance level that is functionally equivalent to your ASA's, Officina Stellare's, Orion's etc...
I wouldn't take much notice of the individual trolling this thread with a commercial interest... Pretty much every sentence posted by him is either incorrect or dripping with elitist posturing.
Ignore it.

?.... But as a metrologist (science of measurement)
I went to a briefing some years ago on the Capricorn flight planning system.... A guy from Suitland Meterolology proudly claimed they were getting close to 49% accuracy with their predictions...
Someone muttered, so if they reverse a forecast, their predictions would actually improve?? Measurement science? Well, maybe, one day....

Astronomy Alive! is a site sponsor. I understand the mods dilemmas in this regard. Paying for servers, bandwidth etc is a costly exercise, and we cannot expect Mike et al to pocket all of it by themselves.
Easiest way to deal with it is ignore him, don't deal with him. Everyone has the right to an opinion.

AdBlock Plus does a marvellous job in removing ALL sidebar ads BTW
Doh! Sorry...misread it...Metrology is clearly not a Meterolology typo.
Metrology is at least a science. As we both know, meteorology is a black art akin to astrology
Was going to do a navex once. Metar/TAF said SKC... 20/20 eyeball said 7/8th's at 700'.... they must have been looking at a radar for Peru or something.

Your laughter compels me to respond Paul. Lack of images to date is because of:
Shocking weather - barely a clear night since early Feb
My poor (but improving) ability to collimate
My perfectionism
Nothing really to do with the stray light issue which has been solved (and that I was being - as some might claim - too anal about). I'd also point out that most RCs and DKs have a stray light problem to varying degrees. Eric's recent (outstanding) image of M83 from a 20" CDK is the latest demonstration of that. It's just that I have zero tolerance for it.
No problem really Marcus, I was just demonstrating that even very expensive scopes such as the one Chris sold you have some problems from time to time that need fixing. The fluff and puff being suggested was what got my goat up. I know you will be working on things with your "Ferrari" just like I am with the lesser "great wall" RC model. .
