In spite of how it must appear I really wanted Hillary to win for no other reason than she is a woman.
But looking at all of what is going on it makes me so happy to be an Australian.
Happy that our social problems are small in comparison to USA.

But this thread has gone way off the OP posting. So is there any thoughts about how it may impact Astronomical products and pricing for us? The dollar is not that far off what it was and if US markets keep improving on his sprooked spending policies then the AUD may again become a 50cent peso, bad for Astrogear.

I would not take any risks buy now buy big... The right time to buy a house, start a business or get married is never right but given the number of stars etc you cant wait because there is only one life time to see it all... Best to glet started right away.

I don't think our dollar will improve anytime soon and it is likely to head further south by the end of next year. AUD0.50 could become a reality. I am holding off selling my US funds for that reason. I bought when it was over a dollar, so I am okay for astro gear for a while.
As for Trump influencing this, I think diddly squat will happen. After all, he can't go to Congress and say 'You're Fired! The balance of power hasn't shifted that much and it will be business as usual. And, I don't think Trump is stupid, so he won't do anything that will wreck the US economy, as he stands to lose too if he does. The money men will prevail!

And with folk in USA not buying up on guns there will be more cash available to buy scopes which will create demand pressure which can only increase world prices for teleoscopes.
Clearly buy now and tell that little voice in your head it makes sence to buy now.

Alex, I always listen to the little voices in my head that say buy now! I bought most of my early Nagler eyepieces when the dollar was close to 47c, so I don't bother thinking about price. If you just keep looking and not doing, life just passes you by.
I have noticed that as the quality of scopes increase out of China they are also going up in price anyway.

I was thinking about his comments on bringing back jobs currently outsourced to other countries for the cheap labour is going to push prices up because manufacturing costs will go up.

I am not posting this as a "I told you so" but in an effort to have folk remain happy and not fear that the world will come to an end.
Mr. Trump has told some mob on Wall Street that he will not be abolishing the health care system we call Obama Care.
Many folk are in the 1st or 2nd stage of grief but he seems to be at stage 3 and hopefully very soon we can all get to stage 5 and get back to footy scores and Kim K's fashion statements.

Apparently... a creationist will be in charge of science!!! "It'll the end of the world as we know it!!" I reckon if he pushes his agenda, someone will exercise the second amendment and there'll be the start of a civil war in the making

I quite like Kinky Friedman's take on the state of US politics. In fact I have enjoyed his opinion of a lot of things
http://www.abc.net.au/news/2016-10-0...94?pfmredir=sm
There is one glimmer of hope in one part of his views.
Where he says that once thrown into the deep end of high office, even people like Churchill became great leaders in the end, when the time before
coming to office they were not exactly perfect human beings.

The point of my post was to point out that his adgenda may change.
Or will he be the first person in politics to make "promises" that somehow don't become reality.
There will be no carbon tax under etc etc...
There will be no gst etc etc
If he does everything he says I suggest it will be a first in politics.
Unlike his opponents he listened to folk and didn't tell them their beliefs were stupid thus alienating them.
Folk are hurting because he won and what hurts most he beat them at their own game and spent less money to win.
He stole voters who were taken for granted by those expert in the game.
That hurts.
But he won the most powerful office in the world.
I don't see how he can do much the country has major problems which will not go away or be solved by anyone.
God bless America...I certainly hope so.

Churchill was one of the greatest leaders of all time... well, that was my opinion before I became a student of history.
Now, after much study on the subject, I believe he was one of the most unconscionable and corrupt psychopaths ever to have misappropriated God's oxygen. The deeply flattering caricature we associate with the memory of Winston can be put down to the momentum of propaganda. The truth of it is vastly different. At best, he was little more than a perpetually drunk puppet with rivers of blood on his hands and was instrumental in the financial ruination of a generation (the world over).

Really Clive? What does that make his ally Stalin and his arch nemesis Hilter then? A couple of choir boys? And, lets not forget Mao.
I am not disagreeing with you Clive, as I am aware of his unconscionable conduct. But, I guess it is all in the comparison.

The most interesting thing I've heard him say was to US car manufacturers in Michigan and Ohio. "If you close these factories and move them to Mexico, I will put a 35% tax on them and nobody will buy your cars."
It's unusual, because one of the fears was that he was just going to look after his 'own kind'. If he practices what he preaches (by no means certain), the US is more likely to be better off than if Hillary got in.
His more crazy ideas (trade war etc) are unlikely to pass congress, whilst more sensible protectionist and immigration policies are likely to get through.

Glad you liked it Ron.
