The only thing I think that comes close these days is "The Big Day Out" series of concerts.
There were a few things that struck me in the clip. One was how well behaved the crowd was. There was some slight movement from people but on the whole they just stood and listened. I can only assume that they were either well brought up or they were stoned out of their heads! The other thing was how thin people looked. I could not see one overweight person on stage or in the crowd. Is this a reflection on our lifestyle today or merely a skewed sample of society from 40 odd years ago?
Anyway, that was a dead-set grouse clip! I think I'll go and watch my copy of Puberty Blues and get another big dose of my teenage years. Hell, I'm going to get that on Thursday night when I go and see the Doobie Brothers!!
Cheers,
Mario
PS Thanks Suzy for this truly enjoyable thread!

I'm very glad you're enjoying this thread Mario, I am too!
Puberty Blues- love that movie. So eighties & so very real of the time! Everything she wore, I wore, which makes for a really good memory lane trip. And the infamous panel vans - aye! I had two boyfriends that owned panel vans- my big brother was constantly having something to say. Have fun with Doobie Bros!
-----------------------------------------
So many great classics have been listed so far!
I realise of course our favourite songs change with our different moods, and being asked to pick three is a tough call, but I was worried by not listing a number of songs to give, that many posts would get over run by a load of songs removing the signficance from my requent - your absolute bare bones favourite. Three well chosen songs make this thread much easier to read through.
I see many of you are sneaking in extras - *tsk* *tsk*
Even though I've used the term rock classic, it can be folk, pop etc. I guess. The reason why I defined it to rock is that it would be harder to chose three favourites across all genres- that'd be painful (as if it isn't already).
Queen and Springsteen are very popular. No one has mentioned anything by Oasis yet.
I would have added Springsteen's Dancing in The Dark as that's my favourite pop track - but it doesn't belong here.
I have a great idea
a lot of songs listed here would make a fabulous playlist for an i-pod. Name of playlist, "IIS Members Rock Classics".

Mario in our little hamlet Eltham we used to go to lots of concerts by bands before they became famous. In the seventies Skyhooks used to play at a tin shed called Research Hall. I have strong memories of drinking from bottles and smoking at rock concerts in the area. Disposable cans had not been invented yet.
There a far more bands I wont bother to mention.
I am glad you liked that clip, I did! Yes we were slim because there was very little junk food available.
I first heard the EasyBeats in 1965 when I was working on a chook farm in the school holidays on my transistor radio. Yes I was reeeally cool!
I would never think the younger generation is worse than us as idiots have been saying just that for thousands of years!

That's why these lists are so difficult.
Everytime I see another members list it reminds me of another classic song that I'd temporarily forgotten about.

Virtually every moring for the last month or so I've found myself singing The Weight during my morning shower. It's almost getting annoying. I don't know why it's stuck in my head. Perhaps because I haven't been sleeping well and keep waking up "feelin' 'bout half past dead". Cripple Creek is another song I keep singing to myself but not, I assure you, because I'm a drunkard.

Hi Susy
I was drawn back to this thread after doing the last 3 of my classic rock shows
on gove FM http://www.govefm.com.au with an 80's Classic rock vs The rest test.
The Results from GoveFM's facebook page:
Round 1: 80's Rock beat 80's pop hands down.
Round 2:80's Rock beat 90's rock and beyond by a healty margin.
Round 3:The test came last week with 80's vs 70's
At the end of the night 80's was well ahead, but it is now almost 50/50.
Thanks for your participation in my show Susy
This week I will do a best of the 70's & 80's show.
You are welcome to tune in to the steaming feed online & even make requests !

I give up !!
Just scrolled through that lot and had a gazillion music riffs barrel through my skull. Each list generated memories of tracks and albums and artists.
At present i am seriously enjoying.
Pink with her rendition of Led Zeps " Baby,I'm going to leave you' off the Aust Show on BluRay.
Jack White of White Stripes with ' Dead Leaves and the Dirty Gound' off 'It might get Loud' BluRay wth The Edge (U2) and Jimmy Paige (Led Zep).
And those venerable Rolling Stones on 'Shine a light', again a BluRay show at the ' Beacon' in NY with any damn song on it but maybe in particular Keith Richards Solo vocal of 'Baby, you've got the gold" with Ronnie on guitar.
Read Keith Richards book 'Life' if you are a Rock fan. It's an absolute stunner and insight into events around that time, not just Keith and the Stones but other artists and things. Excellent read !!
But like others have said these choices are all subject to change and mood. Jimmy Paige is the Maestro .... listen to 'The Battle of Evermore' ...
Better stop now, got some Led Zep, Jack White, Stones and Pink on the other PC and I think I need to start up the player while I work.
Excellent thread .. Ta

2. Teenage depression - Eddy and the Hotrods
3. Whole wide world - Wreckless Eric
Also honourable mentions to Nick Lowe for So it goes and Ian Hunter for Once bitten Twice shy.
