I work in IT as well. Put simply I stick bits in servers and test them before final shipping to the customer.

My other profession (well, I seem to waste a lot of time on it at least ) is:

I am an accountant, just completing my CPA. I was a HR manager before that, I also was a racing manager for a horse racing syndicate and flipped burgers in Hungry Jacks to put myself through Uni.

Now that is an interesting question also. The jobs we did to fund uni/training etc.
I worked as a projectionist in a country cinema. What did others do?

Hi Terry, I funded Uni by working as a Spruker at the local markets on the weekends. It was a fun job but I literally had no voice left on Monday's.

Cheers

I work in IT at HP, I look after a Lab where we do SOE rollouts for customers. I am also doing more Onsite Installs and Hlepdesk now.

Edit: that was all the boring usual stuff, but what I really like doing is understanding systems and solving problems. Hence my intrest in Electronics, Computers, Astronomy etc etc. Aside from that playing computer games.

Most Importantly:
More recently though for the past two years I am learning to share my life with my wife the better half. I hopefully have children to look forward to and pray i can make them good people. There is also the matter of being a son and an elder brother, I am not sure how good I am on these but I endevour to do my best. These are the things that I ultimately measure myself against on reflection. This is the real journey.

Regards
Fahim

Chalk up another one for IT

After starting my working life with the PMG (remember them) I worked for Telstra at the Research Labs for 25 years. I am trained in electronics, but over the years moved on to optical fibre and finally on to....IT! The last 15 years or so were spent programming in Basic, VB, Turbo Pascal, Forth, Fortran, C, C++ and finally Delphi...my personal favourite.

I was able to get a package in 2000 and then in 2001 got my current job as a software developer, using Delphi, for ILID...who you have probably never heard of. We make electronic price labels with an LCD that shows the current price, the smooth part is that we send the data (price changes) through the existing building lighting. The code size for this system is currently running to about 230,000 lines. Check out

www.ilid.com.au for more information.

I have my wonderful wife (Ving, she is a librarian too) who has at least a moderate interest in my hobby and her daughter who is a teenager.

WOW Ken "How Embarrassment", said in my best Effie voice, okay, so can one of the moderators join these two threads into one super 'Work' thread? If it's not too much work, it would seem a good idea

I'm another IT bod, QA Specialist/Testing Consultant
Started out as a sound engineer and still record my own music to this day, whilst almost becoming a vicar. Ended up in IT, starting as Systems Analyst, coding in C, before I found I loved breaking things and have been in QA/Testing ever since!
