Well said Houghy, again Well said Iceman. Time to move on as Icemans wife is saying.

Ving has already moved on to another dimension.

Houghy has started wearing waterproof pants

Dave P has only lost two fingers whilst playing with tools

Asimov has moved into the kitchen and his wife micki has pulled on the trousers, pulled up the seat to the computer and posting images that rock!!

Stu has been banned from the IIS sight after his wife found him bed cuddling his new nagler

Icemans wife has been banned from IIS by mike in no uncertain terms, but she is carrying on with the affair in secret under an assumed name

Wombat in Space has stuck his finger to the mirror whilst attaching sensors and can't get to the phone to get help

Bird has traded it all in and purchased a pair binoculars in a determined pursuit to try and see horsehead
at least my dress has pockets for the naglers!

Whoah! How could I have missed this thread? I am tempted to reply after having read the first few posts, but I'll read the rest of the thread first...

11. Vendors are permitted to participate in discussions but not promote or sell their products. That is, they are free and welcome to post in their capacity as an amateur astronomer or stargazer, but in their capacity as a vendor they should only state information in a thread that discusses one of their products. Their signature may include a link to their company website.
just about every single post seems to break these rules.... I dont agree with what ken did but the thread shouldnt have been there IMHO. i dont see why they cant come here and just talk astro with us rather than advertising thier wares.

I thought that was a forum rule.
But whats the difference between the owner of the wares initiating the thread, or another member doing it? I know of members on another forum(NOT astro) that have recieved kickbacks for doing just this.

The other issue arising from this incident is "advertising", and what is appropriate for vendors to post. We've allowed vendors to reply to specific questions about upcoming issues, etc, but starting a new thread is something different again. I'll be discussing this with the moderators to determine if there needs to be any change to the forum guidelines as a result.

Actually I wouldn't mind seeing a vender type room, where venders can alert
us to impending releases. Perhaps one where you are not able to post a reply.
It would be more like a bullitin board or something. The vender could then
make a donation to post there. Any discussion can be directly with the vender.

I like this group for many reasons, but mostly because there is often great
humor and an over all comradeship of it members, even when we do spit at
each other. Please dont let it turn into another one of those N.A. yahoo groups.

That would work well , but the grey area of who's a vendor and who's a member making a few $$$ on the odd item might be a problem.

Ken, don't worry. Your finest work is still around! And I am sure even Uncle Al would see the funny side of a $30 Kmart Telepoo. I laughed so hard I cried at that one!

I think that is pretty simple really, registered trademarks are venders.

members selling off stuff are in the buy & sell forum. If you import stuff
to sell directly to members ie: brand new quipment then you would have
to consider posting in the vender section, otherwise you'll be selling it as
used, at a used price

One of the ideas up for discussion with the moderators right now is a "Vendor Annoucements" forum, specifically for this purpose where vendors can post about a new release, a new issue, a new product etc.

CN has such a forum that appears to work well, and they even allow members to reply so that questions can be asked/answered etc. I guess if it's strictly moderated it could work well.

That's a good point too, slice.. mick pinner and his astroshields, robby and his starmate, etc - are they classified as vendors or not? What makes a vendor a vendor?

It's a tricky one and will need to be carefully considered.

Registered businesses included? Unregistered businesses included?
I wouldn't like to see anyone take advantage of a loophole, as much as I wouldn't like to see someone disadvantaged by the same.
All the same, I think it would be a worthwhile addition to the site

A registered business is in itself a registered trade mark... try opening a
Coles..etc..etc...

How can you have a legal unregistered business? I'm sure the ATO would be
keen on that. Not sure what you mean there.

Another way of classing a vender is someone you has an ongoing supply,
and want to let you know that they have an on going supply. I dont consider
someone who is selling off his/her rig to be a vender. Nor do I consider folks
like the Striker a vender, especially when they resell at a loss.

I'm sure there are things that need to be considered about this idea, but I
think it could work to benifit the group and the site. If you want to sell
something commercially through the site it will cost you a donation weather
member or registered trademark/business

All? Are you also referring to the posts that had nothing to do with S&S?

Does that mean I can create anything as long as it is not a defaced copy of an original? What about the 'Icing Space' cover & the mock-up book. They were deleted too! They had nothing to do with S&S and they did not breach your own rules.

I see! It's OK for him to break a rule written by you and that is written on the site to read, and be allowed to do so, but if I have some fun with it (to which there is no rule written) I am the one deleted.
Seems like pretty stuffed logic to me.

Shame on you all.
To use your own husbands words "Some call it humour, others call it defacing and in bad taste". Well Kate, some people may call this thread an unimportant topic, others call it important! You choose to call it unimportant BUT it is important to me! Or don't you consider others points of view or their feelings. If you find it uninteresting: don't read it!

Mike, thank you for the email today. No, I don't "have something against you" except the consistency of what is acceptable and what isn't in the site. So, it's not a personal thing. it is an Administrator thing. You leave in posts (and threads) that break the rules you wrote, but delete posts that don't.

Again! Yep, again. This issue about blatant advertising was brought up many months ago and the same conversation ensued (we must define what is advertising yada, yada, yada,), nothing was done then and it was allowed to happen again.

Good! So just kick back and enjoy it and stop deleting the stuff that doesn't harm anyone. You only needed to delete the 2 altered S&S covers, not the whole thread!

See Houghy, as I said. 'That's Just me'. Even when I am in a down mood and trying to get a serious point across, I still can't help myself but add a small joke.
