Hi Chris

I got 0.10.2 this morning at 8:00AM. I thought 0.10.1 had been removed.
You need to click on stellarium in the top line and then downloads to get to the new windows-win32-0.10.2 release and download 0.10.2. The linux and Mac versions are still to be added

I think you will find it works now. It even works on my old 400Mhz clunker with 256MB of RAM that I could not get to work on any release since 0.8.2 and even goes faster 10 fps against 7 fps

Stellarium.org appears to be down at the moment.

If you are in a hurry I can send the two necessary executives as an email attachment. That is all you need to make 0.10.1 int 0.10.2. I need an email address as I don't think I can attach them to this post.

I too can not see 0.10.2, nor any links to it. Just visited the site and there is nothing like a link that you suggest (i.e. clicking on stellarium on the top line - it is text not a link, closest link to it gives me screenshots). The other links all go to 0.10.1

No there is no change list. The change was only minor when it was known what to look for. All that was needed was to remove a "test for" type request.

G'day Barry,
Working ok, loads a lot more quickly than it used to.
I could only load location data by editing file. Impossible to add a location using the dialog provided, program refused to accept a new location name, and loaded Paris Australia!
Mouse movement very 'ordinary', Logitech LX7 optical mouse with latest drivers, 4.70.213
Thanks
Chris

Hi Chris
I had no trouble adding a new location:
You first need to enter the new location details in the windows provided on the location menu (top left button)

Press add location

tick make this the default

This will take you to the location you have selected and next time you start stellarium it will start there.

The additional locations are in the documents and settings\[yourname]\application data\stellarium\data\user_locations .txt and will show up in the locations list.

An entry for the new location is also placed in the config.ini file
location = city, country
On Start up if this name exists in the main base_locations.txt or the user_location.txt file it will load this data. If it can't match the name it will default to Paris, France

My mouse seems to work OK. I know there are some mouse settings in the config.ini file but I have not tried to change them.

G'day Barry,
They are the files I edited to get my location included.
Trying with the dialog, it was impossible to overwrite the default which appeared to be 'Paris'.
Selecting and trying to overwrite failed, just caused 'Paris, Australia' to be added.
Positioning the cursor at the end of 'Paris' and trying to backspace allowed the deletion of the 's' in Paris which then almost immediately restored itself.

Any way, it's working now which is the main thing.
I just hope that those of my colleagues to whom I have recommended the program don't experience the same problems!
Cheers
Chris

Hi Chris
Others may be having the same problem

In the Location dialog window altering the name in the top location window does not appear to have any effect.

You need to edit the entry windows at the bottom and press add to list. Then you can tick the use as default box.

I just added three new locations this way and they worked perfectly and now appear in the locations list window when I scroll down. They were added to a supplementary file user_locations.txt in the Documents and Settings area.

Note: If the new location in your config.ini file is not found in the user_locations.txt or the base_locations.txt the program will default to Paris

The only difference I did from above was that I had previously changed the location to a NSW location that was already in the base_locations.txt

Thanks Barry,
There is obviously some confusion in this area, which might suggest the dialog for this function could be a little clearer, more intuitive?
I'm at work at the moment so I can't play with it, I'll have another go tonight.
Cheers
Chris

Hi Chris

Add this text file to Documents and Settings\yourname\application data\stellarium\data

Now all you need to do is select Kyneton in the location window and Kyneton, Australia will appear in the window underneath, the display will move to this location, select this and tick the use as default box.

Barry,

I don't need to do this, I have already updated the files, both in the Stellarium folder and my Application data folder. I have the program working with my location as the default. No wurries!

What I am saying, is that the dialog for changing locations is not intuitive, adding a new location is not straight forward, not explained.

You may find it easy, others do not. When a program invites you to add a location and the only window for the place name does not allow editing, how is the average user to react?

Chris

The Stellarium version 0.10.1 now on the sf site is the patched version and should work as designed

I now have Stellarium 0.10.1(2) working.
I would now like to use the program using a script.
I have a directory <owner>/scripts/ and a file called mytour.sts
Unfortunately, I can't see a way of using the GUI menu to run a script.
A Messier Tour of M1,33,42,43 and 45 is my goal. However I am stuck on the correct way to code the scripting commands.
Any hints would be appreciated.

Hi Peter
The script feature is still a work in progress. There are some sample scripts available but they still need a little work. We will eventually have a program to convert your old scripts to the new form. The change to Qt meant that a new script engine needed to be designed from the ground up so it is taking a little time to get going.

The current scripts are accessed from the configuration menu. The old "m" tui system is no longer available but a substitute will eventually be included.

At the moment the stop button will freeze the program and the only way to stop a running program is by closing Stellarium. Also at the moment the sample scripts do not return the screen to your default position so it is difficult to know when they finish, there is no way yet to pause a script and sound is not working yet although I think the Mac version has basic sound..

Try the screensaver.ssc script and have a look at its structure. This could be a basis for your messier tour. I modified some of my old scripts and they work nearly as well as in version 0.9.1 but there are no commands yet to do some of the things I like to see in a script.

Hi Barry,
Thanks for your explanation.
Had to re-boot computer after loading screensaver.ssc and running it through the Configuration menu. (You did warn me.)
The potential for educational "tours" is exciting. However I will need to be patient and wait for the updates as the code is beyound me.
Thanks again.
Peter
