Hi all,

Very funny thread that I have just read.
I'm guilty of this one that I can add:

You find yourself constantly fending off accusations from the wife
about the run-down state of the house and yard and it causes an
argument where you say, "well I don't have any bloody time these
days!", whereby you retire to cool off in your backyard observatory,
featuring every comfort and aesthetic improvement known to man,
the sweet smell of fresh paint, in a tranquil setting at the end of
a row of very well laid pavers.

You know you're an astroholic when:
  • You leave notes on the fridge in Dreyer abbreviations
  • You practice estimating star magnitudes with oncoming car headlights
  • You can swear in Dreyer abbreviations
  • You read notes on the fridge in Dreyer abbreviations and know what it means
  • You have written Dreyer abbreviations as part of your message inside a card (birthday, farewell, etc) to a fellow astroholic
  • You don't bother turning the kitchen/bathroom light on when you get up in the middle of the night because you don't want to destroy your night vision in case you want to have a quick look outside before going back to bed

-you pull single frames from your favourite DVD movie, calibrate, stack them and then run a LR deconvolution filter over them before exporting that to PS for further work.

-pressing the arrow buttons on your remote, you expect your TV to slew to the appropriate RA and DEC co-ordinates

-you've subscribed to the "Astro-Channel" on your Pay TV service.

- iis is your homepage and takes up 90% of your web browsers history
- You think a night is ruined because of cloud cover, no matter what your plans were
- You spend more of your wage on astro-toys than food.
- You live a nocturnal life.
- You set your alarm to wake you up for astro events (GRS transits, occulations etc.)

Oh and here's another.

My beautiful daughter, apple of my eye, I will always remember her birthday.
It was the day after the Dec 2002 solar eclipse.
I could have driven to Ceduna that day.... but I had to stay in Adelaide
because my wife was being induced the next day. True story.

Tell me if I've pushed this one a little too far...

* You hear "Red Light District" and think, "wow must be a cool astro-friendly community"

*you never worry about getting lost at night because you can navigate by the stars and planets
*you can tell the time by the stars and planets
*you buy childrens colouring in books on space because they have astro stickers in them, and your children are grown up.
*A true Astrofem never wears makeup, day or night, because you never ever know when you'll be looking through an eyepiece.

Yes, multiple ticks on those or variations of them, as well as:
* Had no astronomy friends in town, so I started my own Astronomy Club (GAA).
* Still not enough, so I was the event organizer for a science fair http://www.nightskysecrets.com/blog/..._01_index.html
* Thought more people needed to hear about astronomy and science , so I start my own science radio show.
* Science radio show had too small a listening audience, so I set up a podcasting site http://www.askthescienceguru.com to get the message out to the world

I live on a property so i'll add this

"Considered chainsawing all the trees within 100 metres of the house!

They're worst to the east, wouldn't you know it, so i have to wait precious time for constellations to rise into my FOV!

Grrrrr

Aaaaahhhhh! I seeeee!

The dark tracksuit and balaclava is not for keeping warm while observing.... it for sabotaging the neighbour's trees under the cover of darkness...

A sign of a true astroholic!
