Ken most if not all of the DVD burners are OK, I have used ASUS, Pioneer and LG and all have been reliable. Make sure what ever you get does double layer and +R,-R,+RW and -RW formats. ATM dual layer media (blank disks) is expensive but will eventually drop in price. Single layer blank media is cheap as chips. If you have any choice get a drive bundled with Nero software as it's useful if you use DVD shrink (which is a free DVD copy tool). DVD shrink uses the nero engine to burn.

If I went to a pooter shop and bought all the things on my list as parts, would I be able to build the pooter myself?

And would it be cheaper?

I wouldn't bother assembling it yourself Ken....Especially on your own... Most shops charge a nominal fee to do it....

I usually get new machines assembled initially but I add to them myself from time to time...

I always install the operating systems... Thats another thing ...You need to aquire a copy of Windows XP too..... $220 for the pro version is the best price Iv'e seen.

Ok Dave,

I will get my Mr. Fix-it-man to assemble it. That's what he does. He builds pooters to order. I was just wondering if it was worth doing it myself.

I will probably get XP Home as it is cheaper.

One thing to remember, get ALL the original program disks. L.

Ken, a monkey could build a P.C. once shown, and putting it together and loading the OS would be valuable experience.

(insert monkey noise) Don't confuse me. One says don't build it, another says build it.

Sheesh!

not a bad option there ken for you. you could even add goto gizmos galore to your little dobbie and be a real buzz clicker .

its small, portable and will handle photshop very well. Also have a look at the dell and acer ones.

Thanks Mr. Houghfengergenhoffer,

Mr. Fix-it told me to avoid Acer. Something about you can only use Acer stuff in them or something like that???? I'll have a look at their websites if I can find them.

Went to Dell . com . au and the closest they have is a desktop for $1395 and it's only 256MB Ram. (getting used to some of the lingo).

Makes the TPG Laptop seem very cheap and it's a 512MB Ram.

By the way, what's a WIFI PDCIA or whatever it's called?
