Hi Paul, I'm a HB nut as well. I just hate the wait after bottling to taste the first bottle. I have to admit the commercial beer does taste watery to me.
Cheers

I know what you mean Ric. I wish it would mature/condition at a faster rate. I am always eager to try a new batch.

One of my friends made his own "TOOHEYS OLD" in HB and it tasted a lot different and i was able to drink more of it before feeling any effect, and they were 750 Ml bottles too! Im a FAN of HB!
Never got sick on it once!
I prefer bottled beer at locals as the On-Tap stuff i have had has made me sick on 3 separate occasions, bottled beer NEVER made me sick.......

I had a friend back in Scotland who used to brew all sorts of beers and wines. He used old brewers text books and reduced the quantities for home use, e.g translate 1 hundredweight of malt to 1 pound. I used to love dropping in for a visit. Keg in the corner of the living room complete with, CO2 cylinder and Swan Neck dispenser on the keg. He had a party for his wifes 30th birthday and all the grog was home brewed. Only guy who was sick had been on pub beer before he got there, never had a drop of Jim's brew. He tried for years to make Guinness, could only ever get 2 out of 3 right. Colour and taste but no head, head and colour OK, too sweet etc. I even managed to get him some Guinness yeast when I was working in a brewery, but it did'nt help. There's nothing like the real thing
One of his best wines was a lovely Rose, made from National Health Concentrated Orange Juice and Rose Hip Syrup.
Cheers

I'm a beer fanatic, I spent two years in Munich. Been to the real Beer Fest twice. My fav beer is Schneider Weise Beer. You can get it in some bottle shops here in Sydney, Shoffer Hoffer Christall (sp) or Weisse is really good to, also available in Oz. For Oz beer it has to be Boags, all the way.

Buy that man a beer!
Monteiths is a great drop, but like Guinness, does not travel well.
Best comsumed where it is brewed, The West Coast of the South Island.
Apart from that, Stella Artois rules.
Or when is OZ, a cool Coopers is glorious.

HB and others
I like home brew when it works, I still only get about 75% right. In the commercials Tooheys Old, Boags and Coopers.
Kids buy me a few Chimays for birthdays and Christmas - much better than socks!

I have a few favourites. Mountain Goats Hightail Ale and Little Creatures Bright Ale are two regulars (I prefer ales). Don't know whether it's psychological or not but they do taste better from a glass ... having a Bright Ale as I type .
Two other rippers I like are Little Creatures Pale Ale and Squires India Pale Ale. Both are quite strong and bitter, particularly Squires IPA. Squires Porter is a nice beer, but it's pretty heavy and I can't drink to many in one sitting.
I started sampling all the craft beers at Dan Murphys a few years ago. It's become quite expensive but I can't go back to the mass produced stuff. They taste like bong water.

When was young..er I somehow bumped into a guy and his girlfriend who invited a bunch of us back to his parents house one weekend when they were away .. his father was a master brewer his games room was full of brewing trophys from all around the world..better still his bar had 3 full size double fridges stocked full of every type of beer you could imagine .
I DO remember falling down a step or two when we left that day.. and if I recall right he got in lots of trouble the following week for consumeing a bottle or six of some unfinished brews that were important to the old boy.
my wife gets given samples of some pretty nice beers these days through work.. as a sampler of many from around the world I can honestly recomend the two.. little creatures ..offerings mentioned above they are IMO two of
my most drinkable beers I have ever had
most favorite ?.. free of course

I usually have WestEnd Draught on hand, in cans.
I Black&Tan was a Stout beer with an amber beer mixed. Never tried one though, Stout's a bit rich - like pumpernickel bread.
