Wasn't a bad movie but the previews are way over hyped lol. It leaves you waiting for the next movie to follow on which sucks, though isn't the case always. I give it 8/10 if your not into sci fi you would probably say 6/10

Gee we're cruel when it comes to rating movies, eh? LOL, but I disagree. 6/10? I think it was better than that. If you aren't into sci-fi you wouldn't go to see it, so I don't see that scoring it from that perspective is fair. I thought it was very good. It entertained me for the full time it was on screen and I think that it actually did an admirable job in setting up its eventual sequel. Was it as complete, as a sci-fi movie, as "Alien"? No. Probably not. Was it worth seeing? Yes, I believe so. 8/10? Probably bang-on.

I saw it last night and it's absolutely superb in how it hints at the Alien lore and leaves you wanting more. I didn't get bored at all during it and I had no disappointments. It gets you thinking and some things were different to expectations (for me) but it was all very good.
Cheers,
Simon

Great stuff
I had to kill 3 hours due to my daughter doing an uni exam.
So I watched the movie in the X'treme theatre in 3d...
Took the morning session and the 1st thing I noticed was all the middle aged men like myself which were all sifi geeks..
I felt right at home! All Alien fans I reckon..
Enjoyed the movie very much..like kustard said.."leaves you wanting more"
Paul..
PS Avoid the face huggers..

Saw it last night in 3D, real cool. I like the way it connected to the first Aliens movie and it gave some 'answers' but then it posed more 'questions'.
Made me jump in my seat once in particular but certainly a movie to make you think. Glad I had a couple of glasses of wine beforehand ...
Will there be a sequel to answer\pose more questions ??

Saw it in 3d yesterday. Not quite what I expected but worth watching. I wonder if there will be a sequel?

I saw it this afternoon, very comfortably in Deluxe (the local equivalent of Gold Class).
It struck me as something George Lucas could have made (Edit: no, strike that, it's too gory for Lucas). There are quite a few holes in the plot and, several times, it left me thinking, "why didn't they just ..."? I guess I forgot to suspend my disbelief as others suggested. Stunning visually, of course, and it answered a couple of questions hanging over from the Alien franchise.
There are shortcomings, but it's enjoyable nonetheless. It is sci-fi after all.

I am glad to see someone else thinks the same. There was no continuity from the ending of this movie to the first Alien movie, unless I missed something. In the Alien movie the "big dude" was found at the controls with a big hole in his chest, in Prometheus......you know. Probably me just be anal!

No..not anal..a very valid point. The movie was somewhat entertaining but I was disappointed with the story line...I expected more from director Ridley Scott given his previous works.

I saw it yesterday. As for the visuals, the words phenomenal, mind-blowing, and awesome come to mind - hands down definitely raises the bar again for a sci-fi movie. However, I also agree with some comments that the screenplay was not the best, with some plot holes, and I'm very surprised that Ridley seems to have let that go by. All in all, I still enjoyed it immensely (!), but wonder and very much hope that it will do well enough to enable the obvious sequel. Fox

Can't say I share the tone of enthusiasm for this movie that most others in this thread feel for it.
I thought the plot was paper thin, and what there was of it didn't make any sense if you give it two minutes of thought.
The script writing wasn't even B grade.
There was no tension, just occasional, random acts of violence/mayhem, none of which built suspense or added to the story. ie) The zombie scene... why oh why?
The acting for the most part was just simply lame... ie) Shaw walking in after her DIY medical procedure covered in blood doesn't illicit concern from her crew mates other than an ironic comment from Dave.... and then they're all off on another field trip! Never mind the impossibility of running around with severed abdominal muscles.... Oh, you just removed an hostile biological weapon/alien from your body... that's nice dear, we'll just leave that thing to chill out in the captains quarters while we go for a little stroll.
There was one illogical and unnecessary sequence after another..
The casting was bizarre... Guy Pearce... seriously?
The choice of characters made no sense... redneck, punk scientists with attitude and discipline problems... even if such characters existed, would they be chosen for a trillion dollar space mission?.. not plausible.
I could go on, but suffice it to say; if you saw this movie without knowing it had the 'Alien or Ridley Scott' name attached to it, you would most likely think that it was a lemon, all be it a spectacularly presented one. If you took away the $200m CGI budget as well, I think it would fairly deserve to be called a steaming pile of dog extract.
6 out of 10 is being generous. 4 for the CGI, 1 each for Rapace & Fassbender being professional in the face of such adversity.

It's hard to talk about this without giving away some of the story, but as far as the "big dude" goes, we really don't know what the heck happens to him after he takes off....

One further comment on 3D CGI... I found its use in this movie disappointing in some parts. 3D adds to the sense of realism if it is realistic. It detracts from the sense of realism if it is not. Rendering planets as spherical objects is not realistic, it just makes them look artificial. Foreground objects (such as space craft) presented in this context are perceptually reduced to the scale of miniature toys.
Note to Ridley Scott, George Lucas et al)
Large objects at huge distances look huge and distant when they are focussed at infinity and have zero stereopsis effect.

I agree Clive, if one is going to choose scientists for a "deep space" mission, you would think that they would need to have a backbone!
Nevertheless, plot aside and the obvious holes, I still enjoyed it, but then I saw it with my brain mostly switched off anyway.
Visually, it was quite stunning in places and I may go see it again in IMAX.

Brian, knowing your tastes for Sci-Fi, you will really enjoy it, even better when not expecting too much. I may go see it again in imax.
