Just tweaked again to reveal more fine structure and gas filaments

Various resolution displays right down to a high res close up of the trap - top row of thumbnails here

You got excellent separation on those trap stars. You don't see that very often.

Yeh that was a nice thing to see at only 1180mm FL, indicates the seeing was reasonable (for my site anyway )

Playing with images is (sometimes) the best way to improve, played with a few images over the years for extended periods and improved'em on each occassion ...seems sometimes it just takes (me) time

Well as luck would have it it has indeed cleared...on Christmas Eve, big family day tomorrow (food preparation etc) so can't afford to have no sleep...always the way

So I have improved the image yet again (50% version link) and added the Ha only and negative versions below

1hr Halpha in 5min subs

Full data combination In Negative helps to show up the detailed surrounding faint nebulosity

Merry Christmas

Mike

Now that I have extricated myself from the planetary forum, I finally happened up this image. Very nice work Mike. You once again restore my faith in smooth processing of this really lovely object. I found the versions all look great.

Nicely done Mike. Do you still have the initial version somewhere on the web?

Hey Mike Da man...
Happy new year and I'm going for the Ha version myself...
Just looks stunning... and besides, it is something different I guess since we see so much of it at this time of the year.

Look forward to a new year where you're pumping them out with lovely AGie... (I won't tell your wife )

All the best
Rich

Oh yeah..... that is just beautiful mate!!

I can see it now.... going mmmmm, "this looks quite good" after you've loaded the negative on the enlarger and finding perfect focus to the glossy paper...
then going.... "HOLY CRAPOLI" as this image appears while you're agitating the paper around in the developing solution... then run from the dark room and grab your wife in one swift movement and do continuous pivots with her all around the kitchen floor as rapture like laughter escapes from your ecstatic face and reverberates through the house walls and out onto the street.....
Yes my friend..... I can truly see that

Cheers
Rich

he he I knew you'd appreciate it ...actually, had I held up the dripping negative after removing it from the developing canister and seen THIS through the magnifier...the dancing would have already started

On ya dude

Mike
