plenty fly in there everyday from Snydney. Not sure about up your way. Even so its worth the drive. Even closer to Bris there would be some great spots. Hell you could ask a Kilcoy local where a good spot would be

Visitors are always welcome here in Kilcoy.
I'm childless this week, so I have 2 spare beds available. A very short drive to the top of my hill and there's a panoramic view to the west.

looking at the forcast is like predicting lotto at the moment. According to several sources it looks like wednesday will be clouded and storms about and thursday morning will be cloudy in patches? Is it worth the risk. Now thinking about fly drive up to mapleton area? Need to make my call very soon. the other thing is that flights have been canned in some cases due to the ash cloud Victoria way which has affected flights north. i love my hobby sometimes.....but it does make one have some interesting choices? Mike/Dennis as you see i am iffy and probably wont be where you are in town if i go. JJJ i have been conversing with the man of knowledge (ponders) so i hope to have some news soon

Good luck Dave!

I just flew into Brisbane.

Drove across the Story bridge on my way to my hotel and saw how close the city is to where I was planning to photograph from. Wondering if it's TOO close now. You really would lose the moon quite early if it happened to be behind one of the tall buildings.

I wonder if somewhere along Kingsford Smith Dr might be better, viewing across the river with the city in the background. Check the attached.

Not sure if you can get on the golf course?

Maybe attachment 2 would be ok? There's a path along the river that you could setup with a view there, maybe? here?

Thoughts big D or anyone else?

Hi Mike

The Brisbane River has more bends than the Alpe d'Huez and you don’t have to stray too far from the CBD for it to disappear from view.

I sent you a PM as I am free most of Wed arvo. Give me a call before 9:00pm tonight.

Cheers

Dennis

thanks Mike - while the city might offer a million dollar view i woould prefer a more unobstruced view to the west - hence my decision, and beside with tour guide Paul on hand i am sure i will find where the moon is

The sailing club beside the 'small' the golf course at quay st bulimba has open grass on the river bank its across the river from the eagle farm spot you have marked good luck hills and buildings make it a little tough .

Pity you havn't a little more time to look over some spots, though likely from a home on top of the ridge at bamoral this pic pretty much covers the view , could you find a similar view to shoot roadside ? .. maybe !

This photo appears to have been taken from one of the tower blocks on the E side of Story Bridge (from Google Earth).

Cheers

Hi David,

So where are you heading in the end, kilcoy ?

Hi Mike,

Thanks for pointing to this discussion. Seems like the position of the lunar eclipse is making it very difficult to get a good area.

I myself haven't decided yet.

Interesting! If you can get the moon between the buildings it might turn out nice but depends on the ability to move left and right from where we want to setup.

What about Vic Lucas Park? Street view doesn't get me in the right spot so it's hard to tell if you can see the city buildings from there or if the foreground terrain is in the way.

its up a slight hill in the road, with little street lights over looking a large farm yard. You can see from about 2 degrees above horizon id guess
Thanks for this location. I might be heading here.

hmm I think I can answer my own question.

Can see the city, but it's fairly obscured by closer buildings.
