don't knock it until you try it, anyone can kick a goal through open poles,
I've played Aussie rules and soccer and I know the ball skills for soccer outstrip those required for footy
each game has it's merits but soccer requires more tactical thinking and ball skills than Aussie rules thats why they can't use their hands

What skills?? They don't have any, that's why don't score anything.
Do you know why soccer fans riot? Coz their so damn bored.
Sorry, one-eyed AFL supporter

Well all I'll point out is that AFL is not played anywhere else in the world, and I'd say there's probably a very good reason for that. It just plain doesn't appeal to anyone. Whereas soccer is played everywhere, by people from all colours and creeds, and by everyone who can walk from toddlers upwards.
We here on IIS don't need to get shirty and claim to know all the answers. The world masses have already voted - with their balls so to speak

And we want to show our kids that rioting and faking injuries is a good thing?
AFL - as a game- has skills just like any other sport and has players from
"people from all colours and creeds, and by everyone who can walk from toddlers upwards."
Asukick for one to mention.....
AFL IS played on other continents...please google in your own time....
NFL is also another ball game that is played around the world and even here in Perth......
Don't dismiss other ball games just because they are less known in your territory.......
Sorry to bring this up, but how many deaths has there been in football (soccer) compared to AFL, NFL and Rugby - union-league .
( and I'm talking about pre-match, during the match and after the match...........not talking about players dying....)
Why?
I have my own thoughts
Nill all ..... wooohoooo(sarc) would frustrate the heck out of me!

Not really the fault of the sport itself though is it? You might not like the game but millions do and the evidence is in the TV viewing figures and attendances at stadiums throughout the world so maybe there is your 'poll'?.
Unfortunately there are groups that have aligned themselves to football with the sole aim of causing trouble and there have been deaths associated with that but its certainly not because they are 'bored' at the game, it is because they want to do that.
Millions of people around the world enjoy football for the game itself. I'm not going to try and convert you as I know it would have as much effect as if you tried to convert me or another football fan to AFL or NRL, its not gonna happen.
You enjoy your game, we will enjoy ours and everyone is happy.

If a draw is the proper result, why do they insist on the farce called a shootout? Because the "fans" (a term including those thugs who go to the stadium to have a drunken fight before, during and after the game) can't stand a non-result.
This attitude has infected other games like the NRL and AFL, but at least there if the score is still tied after extra time it will stand.
Draws in games where they "must" have a result allow all the profiteers to make more money with the replay. We couldn't possibly have two "best" teams.
Other games have violent supporters too. They haven't yet taken to burning down the stands full of people to relieve the boredom.

A bit of an biased comparison. Soccer would have more players worldwide than the AFL has fans worldwide, and many of those players are in countries that certainly aren't as 'moderate' as Australians, who have taken measures such as sending the riot squad to every NRL bulldogs game at times. I guess by your definition the NRL must be a boring game since it needs the riot squad present? Heck, the Australian open tennis must be boring as well since the fans seem to like fighting there too!

it looks like we are going to have to put it in such a way that the poor old dears will understand god bless em - in astronomical numbers
population of world (roughly)
6.5 billion (say 6.5 light years)
people who watch football or participate in football
4.5 billion (4.5 light years)
people interested in aussie rules
negligible (a walk to the corner shop)
honestly some of you need to look beyond australias little bubble and you seem to be constantly proving your own smallmindedness
have a look at the proper outside world
you will find its quite big

Just to fix this piece of ignorance, penalty shootouts are only used in the knockout phases of tournaments (World Cup etc.) where a result is required to determine which team advances. In the group stages draws are allowed, as is the case in all leagues, basically nearly all games.
I don't understand the 1-0 or 0-0 arguments from people saying its boring. Are the only interesting parts of your games when they score? A good (decent quality and where you have an interest in the team) football game is interesting for 90 minutes, goals are just special moments. A tie also doesn't have to feel like a draw, especially if you were not expected to win.
A 1-1 draw for Australia against Brazil, how boring that would be right?

It has nothing to do with small Australian mindedness. I love American football. Soccer is the most mind-numbing game I have watched. Even more boring than chess.

Can this thread be locked, its getting silly. There are lots of football fans around. We like the game, some people here don't. Can we just leave it at that? Nobody is going to win this argument.

Its getting a bit more than a debate over which code is best on here with lines like "
Other games have violent supporters too. They haven't yet taken to burning down the stands full of people to relieve the boredom''.
Thats wrong and pretty offensive to a lot of people who have an interest in football to be painted with a brush like that.

They don't score because it's bloody difficult too score, not like footy where any brain dead beefcake can kick a point or two
Honestly such comments can only come from someone who has never played the game
