No , its still a 1.25 inch eyepiece with a feild stop restriction of 27mm , but you still get the spacewalk feeling ....apparently so , i havent unfortunately looked through one , Dave has one though.the dual barrel system is for convenience , instead of replacing diagonals you can slip it into a 2inch diagonal. My 14meade UWA shares the same characteristic.

The 22 pan would like any televue eyepiece be great , the only thing i would be concered about is the tight eye relief , im thinking if it has a large objective glass because its a longer focal length eyepiece you might have to have your eye pretty close to capture the full feild . I think you would still need a 2 inch diagonal as well , it would be a bit unstable looking in a 1.25 , thats even if works with one .

If it was me i would go for the 17mm {thats if the 22mm,20mm naglers are beyond your budget} a little more expensive but every review and comment ive seen gives this nagler the tag of best ever . Youll get the same true feild as the pan 22 , greater eye relief and no pincussion effect that can occur in the Pan range. The 145x mag delivered by the 17mm is a sweet range , get a focal reducer and you have your low power and medium mag set at a wopping 82* AFOV

I am realy liking the 17mm 2 inch Nagler........just the price I dont like $625 at Bintel.

Are the Celestron Axioms in the 2" ok.....I seem to be able to get them at good prices overseas?

localy they are charging heaps for the celestron range.....neally as much as bintel are charging for Nagler's......they are much cheaper overseas...half the price of Naglers.....are they worth looking at.

I got my 17mm Nagler from Woodland Hills Camera in the US when I ordered a whole bunch of other stuff:

http://telescopes.net/t_-_nagler__eyepieces.html

at $565 AUD (inc gst/duty) the shipping and warranty issues would probably not make this worthwhile if it was the only purchase.

The 15 and 19mm Celestron Axioms got an excellent review rating in the Nov/Dec issue of S&S. Not as good as the 19mm Panoptic but at half the price...

A few more comments to try to help

I have the 35,22 Panoptic. 16 type 2 nagler 2 inch barrel.
12 Nagler and 8.8 Meade uwa. You will see all these eyepieces have 2 inch barrels. So for convenience sake i don't have to change down to 1.25iinch adaptor.

Only 2 of these i brought new, 12 and 8.8mm. so you may think about having a bit of patience and trying to get what you may want 2nd hand

I haven't stated this before and i should of
Just because i have tele vue eyepieces dosen't mean i think they are the be all end all eyepieces.

I once had a set of University Optics Abbe Orthoscopic eyepieces.
I tested these against many diffrent brand name eyepieces.
These Ortho's are as sharp as any eyepiece i tested
The only problem with them is small field of view.
You could buy a set of 8 of them for around $800!!!!!
I very much regret selling them and will one day get another set

So more thoughts for you

I hope you enjoying your scope and remember the best scope is the one you use

Best.

Thanks dave...I have sent some emails to overseas sellers regarding the Nagler 17mm and the Celestron Axioms 19mm and 34mm all in 2 inch......oh and the Peterson Eyeopener which is only $60 USD...still waiting on a reply on availabilty and postage costs...

For some reason retailers are selling the Axiom series so expensive up here......

Axiom 34mm 2"

Axiom 19mm 2"

Axiom 40mm 2"

Overseas they sell for $170 USD and $209 USD + Eye-opener $65 USD...not bad compared to local prices no matter what the postage is!...thats much less then half the price here....even the 40mm is only $260 USD compared to $865 AUS here....the naglers are a small saving compared to the Axioms series purchasing overseas.

Tony,
the 17mm is a great eyepiece, I have used one before and like it big time. I don't have one as I have the old 16mm!

Happy viewing.

York Optical are the sole distributors of the Celestron brand in Australia I have been told. I for one refuse to pay a 100% markup on US prices.

In my experience shopping around, if you want anything other than Chinese made stuff, there are significant savings to be had buying from overseas.

Has anybody bought from centre.net.au - their prices seem a lot cheaper than other places in Oz. Their range is limited but they have all the Celestron stuff.

Their is NO way i will be purchasing at these prices at York.....if anything I will purchase overseas.....

But when comparing say the 17mm Nagler to overseas prices their is not as much of a saving......Bintel sell them for $625...so i Might save like $75 buying overseas...not really worth it compared to the savings on Axiom's......I will wait for postage prices from overseas sellers then make a decission..

Thomo...those prices are much more realistic...and so they should be.

Thanks...
