My favourite quote from this question. "I'd spend 50% on wine, women and song and just squander the rest".

Hmmm;

1. pay my debts out.
2. do what I do best.
3. find someone each week that deserves 1000 as a gift.

That is way too much money for anyone to have.

no way in hell it's not too much money to have.......

especially any astronomer...

1. buy a huge property in the desert..
2. buy a 40" SDM
3. Set up a 20x20ft observatory for the 40" SDM, complete with bedroom and kitchen
4. Buy a 14" TMB APO refractor
5. Set Up a 15x15ft Dome for the 14"TMB refractor and pretend I'm one of astronomy's great 19th century planetary observers
6. Build an airfield on the property
7. Get a pilot license and buy a plane
8. Never work another day in life
9. And thus enjoy unlimited evenings observing
10. Not find anyone to give a 1000 a week to because I won't be able to pay the mortgage on all this shebang!!
11. Give whatever leftover I have on my deathbed (and only on my deathbed) to some charity

Two people won it, 53 million each.

Congrats to the lucky devils.
