Would you guys kindly keep it down to a dull roar in this thread?? I can hear you's over in the next thread! I'm trying to cry myself to sleep here cos' it's cloudy, ok??
Do you REALLY think I'm upset cos' your all out there having fun...& I'm not...Hmmmm? Well the answer is...........YES!! & I'm jealous toooo!
Have fun U guy's & nice reporting on the partial loona eclipseee!
I have just finished watching the whole event from the clear skies of the NT
Didn't get any good pic's though, as I really need the tripod adaptor to get good shots with my little camera.
It was good to share the event with my Brother in central Qld, over the phone.
I must admit I had forgotten all about it, till I went outside & of course looked up (as you do).
The occasional low coastal cloud, added an bright orange halo around the moon, which was a nice effect at full eclipse !
At first it was "fun" trying to glimpse the Moon as it darted behind the occasional dark cloud, but finally it cleared here in northern Sydney. It was good to notch up another lunar eclipse.
For the trivia buffs, as far as partial lunar eclipses go (ie. excluding penumbral eclipses), this was the smallest percentage of the Moon to be eclipsed since 1970 (and that one wasn't fully visible from Australia). For a partial eclipse to be fully visible from Australia, and to have a smaller percentage than what we've seen tonight, you have to go back to 1958!
As the eclipse passed its maximum, I couldn't help but turn my attention to Mars which was lower down in the northeast. The eclipse may be over, but the next big observing opportunity is already here.
here are my feeble attempts, Ken excellent photos, same with you DavidP. heavy cloud cover and sucker holes were the flavour of the night in newcastle.
the last one is through the Intes, the others with my trusty50-500 lens
1st photo is of antares and Venus
the others are the best I got considering the conditions
