As stated, the kit will be available seperately to fit to your ordinary base, i have every intention of getting one as well, although a 14" has been announced also.

a bit off topic, but anyone reading your post couldnt help but laugh, its kinda sensual in nature.

"took out my dob on Saturday" , and the one that had me rocking

"Im in love with a big 10" ....... "

and i will have to look for the Ori Nebular, sounds like a spectacular new object !!

j/k

It was in that stellarium program. Basically, me and my mate installed it on my lappy and we set it to say perth, and we used that as a star chart. The program said it was a Ori so, thats what I think it was. will get more details soon (im at work).

Edit: it is 45 Ori - HP26268 (Thats what it says in the stellarium program.)

j/k

Think you may have mis-interpreted that j/k

For the GBP300 over the price of the standard Flextube you get the motor system that will power slew and track. It has the encoders already built in but as standard you only get the Power slew and tracking functionality with the simple handset pictured. To get DSC/GOTO functionality you then have to purchase the Syscan controller that brings the encoders into play.

So when they say the word 'upgrade', they don't mean you can buy the motor system and upgrade your standard Skywatcher/Flextube. They mean you can buy this power slewing and tracking FLEXTUBE AUTO and then 'Upgrade' this to full GOTO for extra $$$ if you want.

That said, assuming its the same motor system used on all the sizes in the range, ie the motor is exactly the same unit on the 8in as the 14in, well then I can see a scenario where you could still save a lot of money over an argo/servocat combo by purchasing the smallest cheapest in the range, the 8incher, adapting the motors to fit your 12in and then flogging the 8in sans motor system as a standard Flewtube and re-couping some of your cash.

Not unlike what people did with the Orions intelliscope system. Wasn't done much in OZ because you guys had the benefit of the argo being a local product and somewhat cheaper than the rest of the world while at the same time Intelliscopes were much more expensive in OZ than the rest of the world. Elsewhere though people would purchase the smallest cheapest 6in Intelliscope. Strip out the encoders and handset for fitting to their dobs and then flogging the Intelliscopeless 6in Orion scope. ie paying 300 USD for the 6in and recouping 100 USD upon selling the scope meaning they got a DSC system for 200 USD somewhat less then a 600-700 USD Argo.

Me, I went a step further and purchased the 80 USD Intelliscope for GEM mounts and modded it to work with a dob!! Full DSC for 50 euros!!
