I agree to a certain extent Ron. I have found that some writers have limitations and their capacity appears wanting. This does not make them any less a person but requires some tolerance from the reader.

What may be blatant errors to us can appear quite correct to them.
Ofcourse there are unmotivated writers who don't review their post before submitting and these are the ones who, I understand, you are targetting.

A very good point Ron

Cheers, Marty

Well I for one, am glad this thread was made. As someone who is sensative on such issues, I have found the responses very encouraging. However I like the way Ron shoots & all sensativities aside; Ron has made a good point and proven himself to be a good sport in having done so.

My kids are even starting to use text lingo in there speach. Instead of actually laughing, they have to say the letters out loud. Now there even doing it on the radio. Next thing you know, news presenters will be spasmodically sounding out the alphabet.

So yea...I'm with you on that score Ron

I wish people would do a simple read before posting. PLEASE
If they read their own posts surely they can see what is wrong, so why don't they go in and fix the offending sentence.

TBH, i take this with a pinch of salt, and i find it ironic that its posted by someone who easly has the worse spelling on here, while bad spelling in itself isnt a crime, when its really bad it can make a sentence almost as nonsensical

me agree
try type english goodly all posts
me want all read easy

Seriously... as an employer, I do have a bit of an issue with the degradation of writing skills in general. We've been recruiting lately, and the number of CVs with spelling and grammatical errors was staggering to me. These are people trying to impress a potential future employer in tough times when competition for the position is getting fierce, and they can't even get their own CV right.

One had 4 spelling mistakes in the first 2 paragraphs of their CV. They're an engineer going for a job where we specified communication skills are important, and they misspelled the word "Enginnering"! I stopped ready after that, sent a polite note back to the recruitment agent saying "no thanks". They asked for feedback, so I told them why and also asked them how/why they passed on the CV to us in that state as well!

Back on topic... I understand these forums attract a diverse range of members with different education levels etc. English may not even be their primary language. That's fine. This is a casual medium and it's all about learning IMO. As long as the message gets across, I'm satisfied.

But some of the reading skills is pretty ordinary, too. The number of posts where there's multiple questions asked, or a specific question is posted, and replies come thick and fast about everything other than what was asked.

Lack of ability should not be an impediment to posting. Sloppyness and/or lazyness is up to the poster. If they want to come across as someone who is a bit short of care to what they are trying to convey. So be it.

I try to get it right and sometimes I am caught out as I type (three fingers) without looking at the screen. Then after I review my post someone has quoted me already with all the spelling and grammar mistakes.

I only get upst if the meaning and/or content is dubious. Not the text.

It is a good point but hardly something to really be concerned about.

I do not even know why I am bothering to even reply to this thread.

Agrees...time to pass around the chill pills. Would be a shame for this thread to be removed. There is a lot of good stuff in it from all sides.

what did you expect? TBH Ron, this thread was always gonna be viewed from many angles, one of which would be an antagonistic one, i would never have posted this thread because i know for a fact, it would have gotten a few noses out of joint, so you don't like what i have to say, although you can have yours?

Your spelling sucks Ron, and i mean its REALLY bad, but that doesnt make you a bad person, and i am certainly not gonna judge you on it, or your IQ.

All i am saying is, that if your gonna post things like this, make sure your posts are immaculate, and be prepared for a blacklash, and strong opinions.

i am guilty of sometimes saying things over in my head, and in my haste put that to the keyboard, i can sometimes miss words, we have all done it, just as you have posted a few threads on here with spelling so bad in the title it made me go ... "eh ????"

TBH, i think in the interest of all involved, this thread has ran its course, and should be locked.

but thats not my decision.

If you judge my spelling to be the worst on this site, then you couldn't judge an Egg and spoon race with one person in it

grammatically there are some anomalies in there, but there are no spelling mistakes per se.

From now on I will carefully monitor all posts by people who think that they have all the answers as far as grammar and spelling. You have been warned.

Duncan,if you had read all of my posts on this matter I stated that spelling was not the main problem, but missed words which made the posts unreadable.
For one who finds it easy to knock me,please go and look in the mirror before throwing stones.
