No Tatts for me either.

But I am obsessed enough to have worn marks in the timber floor between where my scope " parks" and where I drag it outside and back in again on clear nights.
There is also some sort of Astro stuff in every room in the house. Whether its eyepieces on the bookcase or binos and tripods in the lounge room or even sky and telescope magazines in the loo, constellation books / star maps beside the bed, printed photos of the Moon in the home office.....its goes on and on.
One day I'll get an observatory to put all the suff in one place.

Geoffro.

After completion of the entire tattoo of the solar system was complete...

Tattooist: "They you go mate. The solar system on your stomach. I got the image off the internet."

Customer: "I said the Copernicus version, not Ptolemy's, you idiot!!!"

It's not blinding pain maybe just a bit uncomfortable like being scratched by a cat. But I'll have to agree that people have different tolerances to pain as well.

If you look at the hours factor I have well over 100 hours of work done and actually enjoy having them done and find it relaxing, probably like a form of acupuncture I suppose.

Cheers

I am working on designing my right sleeve at the moment that will have NGC1365 featured on my shoulder and maybe one or two other astronomy based features... I love tattoos... Always have since I was 12 or 13 years old... The pain isn't that bad really, and lets face it, how many things can you spend money on that you're guaranteed to have the rest of your life?

But they are banned aren't they?

Seriously though I've seen the scarring left by laser removal and it's worse than the original tattoo. when people ask me about tattoos I usually tell them to forget about it for 6-12 months, then after that if they still want one they are usually ready.

For those that have homemade or poorly inked tattoos consider a coverup or a re-inking of the old one.

Cheers

Thats my way of doing things... I draw something up, re-draw it until im happy with it, then sit on the idea for a year.. If in a years time I still like it, and still think its worth having on my body forever, then I take my drawing to an artist and start talking about colours, anything that needs changing or touching up in the drawing etc, Then I get it done... usually 12 months although 2 of mine were spur of the moment "I have a spare 4 hours... mm I think I'll get some ink" tattoos... I like them still just as much as my planned ones... The main thing in my opinion, is getting something individual and choosing the right location for each tattoo... Even the best tattoo in the wrong position can look tacky...

Just wondering Alex, do you have the same artist for all your work or do you have a few.

Personally I am loyal to the one artist and his style and he has done all my "ink" since I started and we have become the best of mates over the years.

He now has an apprentice as well who is colouring my back to get his time in. He is doing a great job and is very carefull so I dont mind. My tattoist lets him outline off the stencil but no freehand as yet.

cheers

same artist for all but my first.. My first was done by a mates artist, and I must say I was a little put off after that first one... it was 4.5hrs straight, no breaks, he didn't say more than 10 words to me the whole time.. The only things about the experience that I was happy with was the fact that it didnt hurt any where near what I expected to, and that the tattoo looked exactly as I drew it.. Since then I've been going to an artist who's done one of my mates whole back, right sleeve, chest piece etc.. He's been fantastic.. Its amazing how much easier a 5~6hr session is when you've got a really friendly artist chatting away while he works...

Im nearly finished drawing up my next two.. the sleeve is sort of a rough draft that I'll get the artist to re-do in his own style, just giving him a graphic idea of what im essentially after, and from there he can add in the rest... the 2nd one is for the center of my back between my shoulder blades, and is in its 3rd draft at the moment.. will start the final drawing within the week, and I plan for it to be done straight from my drawing.. That one will probably be done before the sleeve, 2 ~ 3 weeks from now, and the sleeve hopefully started in the next 2 ~ 3 months..

(from ABC Online News)

Tattoos leave teenager seeing stars

A Belgian teenager has told police how she emerged from a tattoo parlour with 56 stars over one side of her face rather than the three she had asked for, prosecutors have said.

"I said this part, the top, is OK, but not the rest," Kimberley Vlaeminck, from the city of Kortrijk, north-west of Brussels, said.

The 18-year-old said she fell asleep during the procedure and woke up in pain when her nose was being tattooed.

A spokesman for Kortrijk prosecutors' office said police were investigating after a complaint from the teenager.

The tattoo artist said Ms Vlaeminck had agreed to 56 stars. "She agreed, but when her father saw it the trouble started," he said.

Ms Vlaeminck said she wanted to keep the tattoos on her forehead but would have the rest removed.

its relaxing once you get used to it.... the first 20 mins is usually uncomfortable depending on how long its been since your last work was done, following that its pretty easy to deal with... Yesterdays session went over my elbows, and a little bit on my right, outside edge of my wrist... they were touchy spots.. but still nothing to cry about...

I suppose everybody has a different pain threshold... but im quite certain anyone could sit through a tattoo... and after a couple, im sure just about anyone could fall asleep during one..
