This is what I would like.
I like the bare bones approach and light weight.
Mind you I am very happy with the MX5 more so now then when I picked it up..I sortta didnt like it..but now I could not live without it...it is a great old mans car.

One of the best I could think of was the now well aged S15 200SX/Silvia. Around 1200kg, about 200HP, not very big tyres so you you really want to go and have some fun you don't have to go at a stupid pace to enjoy the car.

If there was not an edict from my wife that four seats are required I reckon an MX5 would be nice. Or if I really felt like brewing my own, a GT-Z, which is a mid engined ICV (Basically a kit car) based off the mechanicals of a 1.5L Hyundai Getz! When the car is comfortably under 1000KG, 1.5L will provide plenty of fun.

My son has a Silvia. It has a knob on the dash to crank up the turbo. It is a little rocket! I was shocked at the pickup. Great little car.

The Australian delivered ones were detuned by about 50HP from the Japanese version by a brass olive inside one of the boost control lines to restrict airflow that would otherwise increase the boost level. I was tempted to try my sisters S15 at Japanese spec boost but common sense overtook me.

Still one of the most enjoyable cars to drive on a twisting road I have ever driven, I didn't buy it when she sold because I hated the driving position. Silly me as it is worth more than triple what she sold it for now because you just can not find unmodified ones any more and it was exceedingly clean, very low KM and completely unmodified.
