That is a great quote from Cleese . No argument from moi, just thinking we all go into solar for different reasons, we can't all be regarded as chasing the $$, just as I have little interest in EVs, to me their like solar batteries......too early in their development to consider spending $$.......of course, just my opinion

Bravo Les! Well said.

PV's, (unless you have shares or gain royalties from Coal mining )
simply make sense, both economically and for the planet.

I look forward to +90% efficient panels...sadly I don't have enough roof space to have energy credits...an uber-cool position to be in.

Wouldn't go as far as that. Highly debatable with environmental impact both in resources needed for manufacture and recycling fiasco.

I've not seen this in network pricing, can you point me to an example?

Agree that a demand charge could complicate things significantly. At the least it would require a very good undertanding of the implementation of the charge to get the most out of it. Potentially it could also make no difference at all if you have a more traditional usage pattern.

(if my arithmetic is correct that's about 24 cents per 100km if we only feed it overnight with off-peak power...even less if we let the PV's charge it up) but...if you burn say 8 litres per 100km in a ICE powered car, the cost is about $11.00 per 100km)

So we are saving $3300 per year with the PV system and assuming you do an average of 8000km per year, $860 a year in fuel bills. All up over $4100 a year by going to renewable power.

Seems like a no brainer to me....

Peter,

How much do you pay for off-peak?
I pay about 20c per kWh. That would be 1.2kWh per 100km?

You might want to shop around.

We pay 11 c per off peak Kw hour. That said the rub is our peak rate is fairly high...but as we have a Tesla Powerwall II battery we consume very little energy at that rate.
