So what would you take?
Give me a "I don't want to sell price"

And thanks for spelling patina I assume you are right..I do think peteena would work better...
...and peetina would be a different show entirely with more educational value than the rest of the reality tv shows

As for the point of the thread.. no idea what causes collecting behaviour. I'm definitely a collector of almost anything so you may probably call me a hoarder. I never sell stuff so profit has nothing to do with it. I do grow out of collections due to loss of interest. I still collect stamps, rocks/minerals/fossils (am considering donating to a museum), fountain pens.

I guess growing up in poverty taught me the value of repurposing things so I'm not the sort of person who has to upgrade their phone/tv/etc to the latest and greatest every six months and throw out the old one. If i ever upgrade the old stuff which works perfectly well I give to people who can make use of it. I love to learn so anything I take an interest in I end up learning tons about it and in that process I end up with heaps of books and examples of stuff which can grow into a collection.

But what defines a collection? I'd say intent rather than amount. I've got probably 6 or more telescopes but those are not a collection, just what I accumulated based on my astronomy needs and budget at the time I bought each one, some worked well for their purpose but others didnt. I'm sure some people with 6 scopes will brag abut their collection but thats just attention seeking, like buying a DSLR and calling yourself a photographer its pathetic.

Since my stroke left me partially disabled using my good telescope is an impossibility for me to use so I had to buy something more practical to my new situation to continue enjoying astronomy. Same with most interests in my life, its left me broke just trying to cope day to day and i still have to work full time and not disabled enough to get financial support or insurance payouts. It also means I've had to abandon some interests and rekindle old ones... like fossils I've found over the years I'm now researching to identify species and age of them, its also interesting building up a picture of what that location was like way back when.
