Actually if you think about it, if my stuff was pinched, and it was insured for replacement value, i really wouldn't want to get it back from the theives.

As i'm sure we all do, we look after our stuff and handle it with great care, theives dont care and would not respect the property, and just knock it about or just fiddle with it and stuff it up.

Who knows what it would come back like.

Anyway that's just my opinion.

Cheers leon

This has given me a kick up the backside, and I am going to relook at my insurance, pretty sure my stuff is covered, but can never be too sure.

I'm sorry to read of your loss Tony.
It just shows you can never be to cautious, hence the reason why we had a full security system put in when Anna started acquiring all her gear.

If you manage to catch the low lifes Tony send them down here, I know just the thing to fix their problem.

I have just been onto my insurance company this morning and have separately listed all my gear and insured and it only added about $150 to my premium. Not much extra for piece of mind.
One type of cover they mentioned and I took out as well is accidental damage which covers my gear if I trip over while carrying the scope or drop an eyepiece.
I am also covered while traveling with my gear which includes New Zealand, dont know why but it was automatically included.

The lady who helped me had a good understanding of scopes and cameras as she mentioned her boss is into astronomy and photography.

cheers

The crim probably thought it was a garden shed, and would steal the lawnmower and whippersnipper..

Hi Tony, I'm Italian as well so no grass at our place either, just lots of nice flat surfaces for tripods.
I'll bet you have a fantastic vege garden and fruit trees as well. That's what was left by my Dad when he passed away, but I thank him for it now with the price of fruit and vege the way it is now.

cheers

For the heartache these scumbags cause, the returns for them are likely to be very small indeed.

A few years ago my work car got broken into and about 30k worth of test instruments, tools and an old laptop got stolen. The test instruments prob got offloaded for $100 to someone who had no idea what they were, and maybe $50 for the laptop that contained dozens of programs for programming equipment, special purpose leads and customer configs.

It tooks weeks and weeks of work to rebuild and replace everything.

On insurance:
I checked with my insurer (AAMI) the other day specifically about observatories actually - everything is covered as it would be in the house as long as the obs is lockable. Items over $2k I think just need to be listed......
I hope you are in luck with your insurer Tony.....

Seriously Striker, Post an inventory of all the pinched stuff, so I can let all my guys know what to look for , going cheap on Ebay, on notice boards, porned at the shop, etc etc etc , I understand your rational re: wanting it back after some piece of excrement has mistreated it, but it would go a long way towards seeing them in court.

And a small consolation for enduring the gutwrenching experience of violation.

I have no idea what you had...

yes guys I have beeen tempted to post all the details on the forum but honestly I dont want the equipment back well I do BUT....not after they pulled it all apart and have probably thrown it all in the back of a car unboxed...its probably damaged and unworkable now.

At the moment I am happy for this to be handled by my insurance company and if they dont come to the party I will be posting all the details but until then I am keeping quiet.

thanks for the king comments guys I do appreciate this....hope you can see where I am coming from.

Just to be clear I did have everything individualy listed for the value of each item in my policy so I am confident but hay we are talking about insurance companies here so i will wait for there decision before I move on.

Good to hear you have it all individually insured, Toenails.

When I contacted my Insurer (CBA) they listed my 12" Dob individually as worth $1200 and charged me no extra in my Premiums. They said if I add any more astro gear it may cost me as much a $3 per month extra!!!!!

Peace of mind on all my gear now.

Makes a lot of sense. Good luck with the Insurance Company. Let us know what happens.
Thank God they didn't take the Holden jacket .
