Thanks Peter I find great hope in the fact that we both thought the speech was good.
I mean if we do other will also.
The markets at the moment are responding well and I think mainly to the speech.
I can relate to Trumps style in so far as I will say outrageous things to focus attention and yet inside I am cool and ordered.
I am full of hope.
He may lift world opinion of USA because there is a perception he will be less than one sided in the middle east.
If so that will go a long way to soothing the rift between the crusaders and the Muslims.
Anything to get us past that mentality will be great.
I was so happy to see him try to heal the rifts.
His tribute to Hillary was so far away from his cries that he would send her to prison I felt yes this man is going to be a great politician.
And that perhaps is now our concern.
But hopefully his ravings were mere theatrics.
I would do similar to gain office but once in office I would gather great minds to do the work and spend my days telling folk how great the world is.

Here's an interesting read for you. This is what is going to happen to those exact people who voted for him, who deserve it, and a whole bunch more who didn't, so don't.

If he goes down this path, there will be a recession, if not a depression, and this time, Australia will not be immune. Get your cash out of the bank folks. This is gonna get ugly.

The market responds to what is good for those in the market. Trump's platform of a 15% business tax immeadiately makes all those listed companies more profitable and thus the market is pricing that in, hence the rise. Given that the Republicans control all levels of government now, the delivery of promises is not the sort of road block that we have here. It remains to be seen how this affects the US budget, debt levels, etc but the Donald has never cared much for paying back debt, but cannot just declare bankrupcy again to escape the US creditors.
The speech was out of character but 'designed' to be one of those 'lets all work together' messages of conciliation.it was not off the cuff as he was reading it off the teleprompter. Many of his rabid supporters were disappointed with that speech as being weak and not Donald. A speech designed by a committee to achieve a purpose and not offend - classic politics 101.

Thanks for the link Nath.
It will be interesting to see what happens re health care.
Follow the money.
The beneficiaries of any health scheme are the doctors, the medical suppliers the drug companies and insurance companies.
That is where the money goes.
The patient is hardly a consideration.
And I don't like anyone's chances of wrestling that juicey bone away from all those who are chewing on it.

Hi Glen
The rich get rich and the poor get poorer.
That won't change.
Same result yet half think its good half think its bad.
I just think it is.

Meade used to be made in Mexico until they moved to China....
I wonder how he expects that to pan out.
He's got 4 years. Barely enough time to bankrupt Zimbabwe never mind USA

Good one Jen you brought it back to the original posters question! Indeed from an Astro gear point of view will be interesting to see how/if/when his policies affect companies like Meade in the US and if they wait it out or start making changes from hereon. Meade are way overpriced in Australia as it is, but that appears to be a local issue.

A little crystal-ball gazing at a point about a year from now - Trump will be found to be yet another emperor with no clothes.
Rhetoric does not govern a complex state. Those who voted for him in what someone below described as an index-finger to the establishment are probably right but that means Trump has a mass of expectations out there demanding to be filled and of course, he will find he can't.
In a year's time, my gut feeling is that America will be a chaos of division and anger. More that it is now. It's foreign policies will be an invitation to states such as China and Russia to step up their bellicose behavior, old allies in Europe will be unable to justify turning the other cheek to Trump and will begin to move away from the old alliances. NATO will become seriously fragile and world tension will have risen by an order of magnitude.

Give it a few years of Trump authoritarianism and we can likely add crimes against humanity, and war crimes to the list. That's worse than serial killer.

Is that right?so,you didn'tcatch any of the hillary clinton congressional hearing?seems clear to me that crimes against humanity and war crimes have already been committed don't you think?but hey Im sure the FBI won't find reason to charge him either.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I9zVgOiHzH0
check them all out and you might see why Trump is the President !It's amazing to me that anyone voted for Clinton.

Well that's true, Clinton is a war monger. As someone on a blog I was reading earlier said, "America had a choice between corrupt or crazy, they chose crazy. Possibly in the hopes that things might change".

The ABC (Aus) had a story this morning analysing the voter turn out. Apparently there were 231 million eligible voters but only 128.8 million bothered to vote. Out of the 128.8 million Trump won just over half, around 65-70 million or only 28-30% of eligible voters. This is hardly a mandate for reform, but it is a sad indication that many voters could not be bothered voting, either because they disliked both candiates or general apathy.
This is a great example of why voting should be compulsory there, as it is here. At least it would force people to make a choice. As it is at present, the winner just has to be better at mobilising the support base regardless of the platform.
