I have to stop building these puters in the shed, this is the 5th one I've used to log on to IIS in the last 3 weeks. Its becoming part of my SOE (Standard Operating Environment)

Addicted to information.

I don't find it addictive. I just find its so damn informative that I can't do without it.

As a newbie, who knew next to nought about astronomy, this site has been an absolute saviour.

For example, I would have bought some horrific department store POS scope, and gone blind looking through it. I would also not know what assessories to buy. And I wouldn't even know what I was looking at!

Now I have a good value for money scope (12" GSO Dob), on my way to getting some reasonable assessories (just ordered a Rigel Quickfinder, and a selection of filters, and another 2" wide view eyepiece), and I just finished printing and laminating all of Taki's 8 Mag Southern Hemisphere star charts!

It send shivers up my spine when I think about how long it would have taken me to work out what collimating is, and that my dobs even needed collimating in the first place! I only learnt about it from being here in the Ice forums, and their absolute wealth of information!

All hail the internet! Its like the Library of Alexandria, but online!

I'm addicted to information.

I'm with you nightowl. Although I've had a telescope of one sort or another for more than 15 years and been a member of an Astro Society for a couple of years in the past I've probably learned 10 times as much from this forum over the past 12 months.

aaaarrrggghhh!!!!

I am not addicted but...

in an effort to determine how active this thread is I wrote a script that checks for changes in the number of posts (as part of another project where I created an RSS feed for IIS).

Based upon about 80 hours of data collection I found that on average someone posts to this forum EVERY 3 MINUTES (20 per hour).

sheesh...shouldn't we be sleeping(um, I meant working) in the day?
