I too went to bunnings, heaps and heaps of people there. quite odd if you ask me but I was also there, perhaps im odd too....

Still blowing a gale here in Brisbane at three. Emptied the rain gauge just after lunch and we've since had 50mm. That makes 177mm since the rain began.

The rain stopped but talking to the council earlier, the water is still rising 200mm an hour.
I went for a rubber neck just before and when I came back they had a road closed sign on my street. I had water across my drive way and it's rising pretty fast. Another hour or less and I'll be totally flooded in.
Set up the camera on the verandah and am taking shots every 15 seconds of the water rising.

Idiots as you can see from attached photo, its about 6 feet under.
That'll serve them. I guess that they could convert it into rock star style dual swimming pool and garage!

Sorry to hear about the damage to the house, David. Hope it is sorted quickly. We've had a leak from a deck that we noticed a while back. Fortunately, it's outside the house and the builder came and cut a hole a week ago so most of the water is dripping out through that instead of pooling in the roof. At least we know where the water is coming from now...

I hope everybody else out there is safe and dry too!

BTW, there is no truth to the rumour that a Ceravolo is responsible for the weather in SE Qld. Not yet, at least

Cheers,
Rick.

Thanks Rick,

All pretty minor here. My brother is without power tonight - will drop my generator over to him in the morning (if I can get down Moggill Rd). Hope his in-laws don't get flooded again like they did in 2011.

8.25m at 10pm and still rising. That means lots of houses and businesses are underwater now. I lived through a couple of floods when I lived there (40+ years ago!) - nothing like this.

The story in the southern suburbs of Brisbane...

Well it's finally stopped raining and the wind has died down. The rain I can deal with but the wind is something else!

I am amazed that two trees in particular are still standing. The gusts this morning are something that I will never forget - I guess this is what I get for living on a ridge!

Total rainfall for my backyard came to 286mm and that does not take into account the near horizontal rain.

Cheers,
Mario

Yes, I don't think I've even seen wind like it either Mario. Was convinced the neighbours gum tree was going to take out our power and internet.

We have a steel frame house and a few times last night I'm sure I could feel it shudder a couple of times in the gusts. I see Archerfield (nearest airport) had 93km/hr gusts earlier this morning and at that fits with 40 odd knot gusts I would have estimated here, so I hope I never get to live through a real cyclone!

Lots of activity in the street today cleaning up branches and leaves.

Hope everyones ok,when I saw this come ashore around gladstone I thought it would weaken quickly as it moved south , well its been raining cats and dogs for a day and a half, and the wind is gusting from nothing to cyclonic every few seconds, the greenhouse I manage was pretty well shredded at 8.00am and is probably finished now, I noticed the old windmill they stuck outside the local shopping centre 30 years ago was a crumpled mess on the footpath at lunch time.

Good luck to all those in the south and stay safe.

We're safe here in the southside... stuck without power though. I never thought that I'd be wearing in my new generator by keeping the fridges and TV running after a storm, instead of recharging batteries for astrophotography

We are in the outer Northern suburbs of Brisbane. There are many areas with no power.
We are fortunate. Have power and a generator.
We are very popular. Many of our friends wish to borrow the generator.
First come first served. Its gone. These people have tried to purchase a generator. All stock sold already by the local retailers.

We were running only one fridge. Now we are storing friends' food for them in our spare fridge and large separate freezer.

Had a large tree branch come down on our rental house. No damage to the roof. Already cleared up.

We are effectively unscathed from the storm. Yet so many around us have damage and/or no power. We have a lot of branches to clear up, but no real damage.

I bet its because I have not made any astro toy purchases of late. SWMBO's greenhouse, come orchid house is unscathed. Not even one orchid knocked over. When I built that orchid house, comments were that it is over-engineered. I say it is built to last and to take on Mother Nature.

Cheers

I guess that about 5 litres of rainwater in the hallway on tiles doesn't count as a natural distaster. Mrs had a snapped shrub that caused her mild displeasure.

Still - more damage than in 2011 for us!
