Your description of the erractic Envisage behaviour is much like mine was after upgrade to 5.85 - previous to u/g, I had the DSI plugged straight into the USB of laptop and it worked fine but not after. To cut a long story short, the erratic s/ware came good after I plugged DSI into a powered USB hub (as well as turning out images with more colour in them). It seems that the DSI needs 500mA from the port and mine was JUST making it b/4 the u/g but not after. If the DSI is not getting enough juice, it will send erratic info for the s/ware. Also, it seems that though some laptops that claim to provide 500mA , the supply wil actually reduce if the current is shared between ports (so if you plug something into other port, the supply to the DSI is decreased by that amount.
Like you, I uninstalled/reinst etc, so if you are not already using a powered hub, try it.

I could post you a cd, if I had your address. I joined the meade group using .au, no problems. Maybe your ISP has issues with one of the relay stations or something. Anyway I think I can help one way or the other.
I have Envisage version 5.85
best,

rob, I do infact have that copy of Sky and Telescope and will dig it out and reread it.
You certainly improved my pic a lot
Sadly I did not get to have a go at it last night, the clouds rolled in and stayed. Then at about 4:30AM the rain started, and its not looking good now for the next few days.
And I will see if I can get hold of a USB hub to test with.
Thanks for all the help

The weather here is still bad, clouds and rain. Maybe tomorrow morning I will have a chance to poke it some as the clouds and rain are meant to clear today.
