It's also been a while since I got a deep-sky DM nod... now with Martin back in town + his High Sierra remote...standard was always going to be stratospheric.
If you are shooting deep-sky from the 'burbs (as I do ) you are seriously pushing up-hill. So it comes down to enjoyment rather than being at the cutting edge.
It's my cheerful prognostication (the well-traveled) Phil H will surpass my total this year.
Congratulations to everyone who won and also to those that entered and gave it a shot. Sheepishly I have to admit that I also entered one of my images but alas was unsuccessful. However should the Mayans be proved wrong then 2013 beckons for another shot at glory!!

So.....need a bucket?
Really?...I mean, let us know how you went this year sure... but adding up all your DM wins over the years and then every year feeling the need to remind people ....t'is a bit gratuitous
How many wins now Gary, 5 category wins listed on the site? Did you win any before 2006? You must be in a chance to obtain another category win.
cheers Paul,
Only first entered in 2006 , my gear was pretty basic before that.
I wish I could go as a reckon there will be some ripper images and videos as so much has happend in the heavens this past year.
When I look at Phil`s site and all those lovely images from Alaska I know it`s gonna be good!
Oh pleeeease this isn't going to degenerate into a how many wins have you had thread like last year is it?? ...if it does I think I'll chuck up
Mike
No that was not my intention. It was speculation if Gary was to win another category and given that he has won a category all but one year since 2006 I thought it would be good odds.

Hey if the media can speculate prior the Oscars, we can speculate with our Astro-Oscars.
Something to be proud of, rather than cringe about!
I am being rather lighthearted here guys...but I juuuust think you should be a little more mindful of all those who enter every year and receive no recognition, out of respect for these individuals it's probably nice to keep the running tally of your wins and shock at not being recognised in a particluar category etc just a little more private.

Mate... it's a competition . Get some time under dark skies dude. Seriously. Quick.
Anybody else from Melbourne heading up to Parkes? I'd be interested in sharing the driving if we can make mutual plans work. You can message me or call 0438 037 567.

Unfortunately I can't make the dinner...in Chile on work for the next 6 weeks. Would have been great to meet everyone.
I was hoping you had entered Colin and would have been amazed if your timelapse didn't make the cut. Pity we won't get to meet this time.. somewhere else hopefully. Is the work in Chile photography related or will you be trying to tack that on??

The only comment I made was: this year Phil Hart will most likely be the most prolific CWAS/Malin award winner do date...and yes, I said the same thing last year.
No tally.
No reminder.
Hardly gratuitous.... and by the way...well deserved Phil.
Seems you need to take a camera a bit beyond the corner shops to make the cut these days
thanks for the kudos Peter .. but before you get your hopes up too high i'll let you know that my first yukon timelapse vid which you have seen got picked, but none of the images from the yukon were (although one has just been printed in international S&T, albeit too dark). and one of my images that was selected was taken from williamstown, which is not much further than 'round the corner' from hawthorn.. .

Cheers Phil. Chile is mostly work (non photo) related, but if things pan out I'll try to take a week off at the end. Probably hit a couple of locations in the Atacama/Altiplano? There's a pretty amazing remote spot where an iceberg forms over a geizer in the winter that I'd like to try. Around 3500m, and well below freezing ... right up your alley
Good luck with the awards. I reckon your Yukon timelapse will do well.
Going to make it for the first time since 2008. I am looking forward to cathing up with a few guys and even meeting a few. Booked in to see the conference too.
