Not for me. I agree with most of the earlier posts here. Not much astro stuff over there, more like a 'boys club' where anything goes. Interesting to see what happens after things settle down and moderators are used.
One word, "pathetic" A site with most members needing to use offensive language to get a point across, a waste of space if you ask me, and i assume will be a fleating moment of stupidity that will fade out faster than an iridium.
I never understood all the angst and acrimony. And I will admit that for a little while there it seemed to me that the moderation on Ice In Space was becoming a tad heavy handed (not that I cared too much myself; hey, it's not my site). OTOH the spam seemed to be getting a bit out of hand too.
Then I went and had a look at the other place. Well, thank god for mods, is all I can say. Frankly, if I was Mike I'd be grateful that someone has gone to the bother of setting up a public urinal off-site where aggrieved patrons can write their obscene graffiti. And if ever I feel the desire for some crotch-stretching, beer-swilling, spitoon-filling fun, then I guess I know where to go. In the meantime I think I'll stick with a forum that's got something to do with astronomy.
Well said Miaplacidus.
What wasnt obvious to the casual observer was that a small handful were working to undermine IIS and attack it when at its weakest from a moderation viewpoint (on two occasions in fact), and yes they did manage to do damage with some members shaking their heads and leaving in disgust at the carry on that was happening.
Thats all water under the bridge now and IIS can move on to bigger and better things
Public urinal, crotch - stretching, beer swilling, hard hitting stuff there, and not a touch of tolerance, well done.
Because the guys on the other site, of which l am one deciede to enjoy their love of astronomy mixed with some behavoir that does not follow IIS guidelines does not make them or me some sort of ratbag.
If some of those that have bagged this site in the past few posts took the time to note some of the members and the ability and knowledge they have in certain areas of astronomy and l use Paul aka Rumples Riot as one, and his brilliant astrophotography you would see that astronomy is the underlying point of why they are there.
These guys just want to enjoy their astronomy without the direction they take being dictated by others, the people on the site dictate this themselves.
l enjoy both sites and can see the benefits of both.

Yeah, but they've got Ken bouncing around in a Bozo-the-clown suit! You've gotta come over to see that at least.

Watchootalkinbout Slice? ... But you're right. Kitchener is just a poster, not a real spokesperson for the site. I am a member btw. I'm working my way up to moderator. First IIS. Next SCP. And then ... build it ... slowly ... carefully ... till one day ... Dictator of the World!!!

You are right, Mick, on this score, with regard to the talent, and I stand corrected. (And don't think I don't recognize your own contribution to amateur astronomy as well.) But astronomy as the underlying point is being obscured by a fair amount of overlying offal.
BTW, I would feel awful if Stu mistook my comments for personal criticism of himself, but of course why would he not? - I appreciate his efforts and initiative in setting up the site, and I ought never to have referred to his site in the way I did. Sincere apologies, Stu. I truly hope your place turns into a successful astro site.
BUT, the style of an institution depends on its members much more than it does on its founder. (I hear that Jesus Christ and Mohammad were both quite nice chaps.) AND I think it is fair comment that some of the members there are using language that is frankly offensive, and that a few are denigrating individuals, as well as our beloved IIS. Perhaps Stu might like to know that these members are alienating quite a few potential members. (Ironic, hey?)
I like a site where kids can play, but mainly I hate acrimony. As others have said, I hope they can dispell the bitterness and develop into a successful astro site.
I was going to keep out of it - and there has been gratutious baggin of iis there and thats unfortunate, i wish it would settle down.
but being a member I will have to stick up for scp against this self righteous posturing here (sadly to common here) and say havent you guys got anything better to do than visit a site you had made up your minds about already and knew you wouldnt like before you went there? LOL
Interesting its brought a few lurkers out of the woodwork
'sticks in the mud'? - i would of used the terms 'prude's', 'wowsers', and 'wet blankets', personally
keep the publicity comin
