Thanks so much Peter.
I was just a tad worried re shipping times as Adrian from here ordered a book from them and it took a good month if not more to arrive so I wondered if perhaps that was a one off. At least he was told about the delay when he ordered.

Ron, thanks for finding the US site. I just ordered at $40.86 with free shipping!!

Last week I ordered "The Stars and Planets" from the UK site here....
http://www.bookdepository.co.uk/Star.../9780691135564

at $21.24 with free shipping and now I see it on the US site here.....

http://www.bookdepository.com/Stars-.../9780691135564

for $18.83 with free shipping!!!

We will have to check both sites in future.

This is a good community.

Michael

Thanks everyone for the feed back on this.
I used to think the UK prices on books was cheaper than the USA, but have now been pleasantly surprised
I still have not worked out how I got USA prices from the book depositary UK site
Not that I am complaining
I suppose it will pay to check both site in the future
Cheers

Well Ron the prices have changed since yesterday it's now $40/$47.

I only knew there were 2 sites as they get listed on www.booko.com.au which is a great way of comparing book prices for shipping to Oz. (Just remember that for orders of books over £25 they will ship free to Oz)

Mike, the "Stars & Planets book is my most used and favorite book. I can't wait for you to get it and enjoy it.

Looks like this new book Treasures of the Southern Sky is a hit really quick. I know what we're all going to be reading come the end of next week.

As noted by Adam re new price on this book.
I just got an email from The Book Depository UK, wishlist price drop- book now $47.84 . U.S. still cheaper though ($40.86).

I did say in an earlier post that I don't pay more than $50 for a book from there if they sell here for around $100. That's why I didn't buy when I did- just didn't sound right.

As noted before, well worth keeping an eye on both sites.

Hi Suzy,

Yes, it can take a while to receive some books, but then, we often can't get them from any other source anyway, so we just have to live with that. But having said that, the majority of books have arrived within a couple of weeks. Sometimes it arrives quickly and other times it takes longer, but I am OK with that, after all, I am paying for "snail mail" rather than the extra cost for "expedited" mail. Of course, expedited mail usually arrives within a few days to a week, but the cost is way too prohibitive, unless you need a particular item "yesterday"!

Hi again Suzy,

One other thing that I forgot to mention. The service is such that they keep you well informed and if, for instance, postage is a lot more than quoted, they inform you before shipping and seek your authorisation.

You might get the impression that I like ABE books, well yes, I do, a lot.

I have been able to acquire every "hard, and not so hard, to find astronomy book" I have wanted, except for one fairly rare item, from ABE Books. The only item I haven't been able to find is the Atlas of Galactic Nebulae Vol 1-3. It is quite rare. I had it once and stupidly sold it, as I needed the money at the time. I have it on DVD but am still looking for the printed version.

Cheers Peter

Suzy, thanks for the endorsement of "Stars and Planets". I saw it mentioned in this Cloudy Nights discussion and thought I would take a chance.
