There's the rub. I hope we get a decent amount of clear skies this year.

I think last year must have been the cloudiest year I have ever experienced.

You know most of this cloud is only on the eastern side of the Grreat Divide. I drove through rain to get to my dark site 2 weeks ago and it was perfectly clear all night there. Out of 11 nights I got 10 clear nights with a couple I had to wait an hour or two for some cloud to clear.

It seems the much lower humidity there means even if there is a fair bit of cloud around during the day as soon as night comes and it cools off the cloud is reabsorbed and -bang clear skies!

Greg.

There's some beautiful detail shown with those dark neb strands/ towers and little boks...
Also the delicate wisp to the centre is looking especially well detailed.

I look forward to the colour when it comes!

All the best

Thanks Rich. Yes, Ha sure brings out the delicate detail and I'll be sure to maintain that detail when adding the LRGB!

It's a great image now and I'm sure the end result will be even better.
Thanks a lot Peter! Ah yes, the head butting cat. I have two of them. They're my biggest fans!

I agree - 2011 was the worst year I can remember for cloudy nights. When I first moved to Grose Vale in 2006 the nights seemed to sparkle. Say, got room on your dark site for another observatory?

We have three.

They have the humans well trained.

The youngest..the head butting one... (he's six now) is a bruiser. Weighs in at 11kg. All muscle...but delightful nature.

That said...the neighbours dog is pertified when he gets out...having already been rolled twice by said feline.

...but they do help in making you not notice the very cloudy weather...well at times at least

Looking good! I have to say, I'm beginning to become quite the fan of H-a displayed in B&W

Cheers Dave! Ha is king when it comes to showing uncluttered detail in an emission neb for sure. Don't get used to seeing much B&W from me though!

Thanks a lot Ross. Mono does have it's appeal. Hopefully you'll love the colour version as well!
