I'm sure bigger and better will become available to astro imagers again, possibly as a by-product of some other requirement. It's just a matter of how long between drinks.

Cheers,
Jason.

Unhappy kodak demise

I've been wondering about Kodak for some time. I still regularly use Kodak black & white films and chemistry for fine art photography. Much of it isn't stocked anywhere in Australia any more - I order my HC110 developer and 8x10" TriX film from New York. Based on what happened with Ilford there is a possibility that a niche area such as Kodak film, which has a very loyal following, may rebirth in a downsized spin off company. Ironically, large format film caemras are still going through a renaissance - some sort of reaction to digital (I tend to shoot on film and scan my negatives these days).

CCD chips are another matter however.

I read a little on kodak earlier this year while trying to chase up some bw film as its hard to find many retailers that carry it, and was surprised there turnover in film and materials globaly was still 3-4 billion.

A little look online does suggest they carry some substantial debt regarding funding pensions and healthcare obligations, I hope they sort it out ,one less player in the marketplace isn't a good thing.
