I simply set my camera up (Canon 400D) to Auto Exposure Bracketing mode or AEB. Usually found under the menu of most DSLR's. I also had the camera set to AV mode. The bracketing mode allows me to take 3 images and the camera will adjust the exposure etc.. so that one shot would be under exposed (highlights), one exposed correctlly and one over exposed (shadows). Using a program like photoshop it has it's own HDR process in it, so getting the image to look right is fairly simple. So adjusting the levels of the shadows and highlights the program can give you a greater depth to the image.

Andrew,

OK, that doesn't sound too tricky. I already have the Canon 400D, and I have Photoshop CS5 Extended on order and expected this Thursday. Maybe I'll have a play around and see where I go. Thanks for the help

The only suspense I feel is waiting for my flight here at Christchurch Airport.

I think the same (but more realistic) outcome can be reached using masks and careful blending

But, that's just my opinion; and, I'm no authority on the ethics of photography.
