Thanks for the positive comments and well wishes guys, they are nice to read.

Like any competition of this type, getting an award does not the imager make. I had several favorites of my own (by other imagers) in the pool and a couple I thought for sure would catch the judges eye.

However, knowing that a group of people, all of whom are in the astronomy research, outreach and journalism games, on the other side of the globe, in the mother of modern observatories, collectively picked out my image from a pool of 700 bloody amazing images from around the World....is the quirky (lucky) and rather cool bit but it certainly doesn't make me a better imager than anyone else, it is all fun

What a collection though, anyone who hasn't had a look at the full entry pool should, just to see some beautiful work, some are very emotive and moving.

Cheers heaps again

Mike

Congratulations everyone!

I'm just browsing through the full lot now and there's some stunning ones that didn't get a mention in the finals. Creative and inspirational! Keep them coming.

Thanks for the well wishes boys

Actually if you look at the list of finalists since it started in 09 you can see Aussies feature quite well each year really seems our connections with the original motherland is healthy.. in the imaging world at least

Here's a Sky at Night Magazine Vodcast episode of the awards night.

Nice features and interviews with some of the awarded imagers and judges

The amazing interactive exhibition now on display at the Royal Observatory in London is shown at the end

Extended Vodcast episode 31 - Sky at Night Magazine (11min)

Amazing images.........

Aussies punching above their weight yet again!!! Great results, guys.

My pick for sheer value is Marco Lorenzi's Vela Supernova remnant pic.

Thanks again

Hi Mike, noticed this thread only now. Thanks for the kind words! My compliments too to you and Peter, Paul and Steve for the great pictures that got through the final. As you said it is great to have 4 aussies (and an adopted half ) that were selected, that means that not only this is a land of dark skies but also a land of talented people

Marco

While we would like to take some of the kudos because you do some from Australian skies ...your work is World class Marco so it was no surprise that it was so highly regarded in the judging.

Well done and we all look forward to your next masterpiece

Mike
