I've seen them live. Daniel Gildenlow is one of my favourite vocalists of all time. Top 5.

I've got one - Toni Collette singing the Crowded House Song "Don't Dream It's Over" which she does over the credits of the Movie "Cosi". Heavens knows where you can find it apart from the DVD/VHS of the Movie.

Here is a brief commentary I have found:-

Toni Collette
Having first seen and appreciated Australian actress Toni Collette in Muriel's Wedding, little did I realize how extensive her talents are. In the movie Cosi, she sings three songs... Don't Dream It's Over is one of them. Originally performed by Crowded House and later by Paul Young, this rendition by Toni Collette is, in my opinion, the best rendition.
Should you like this rendition as much as I do, be forewarned that the album soundtrack for Cosi is extremely hard to find. The video is easier to find.
COSI:
Meridian Films (1995).
ISBN 0-7888-1231-9
Director: Mark Joffe. Music:
Stephen Endelman.
CD (ST) Icon. 19961 (1995).

I read a write up of an interview with Nick Mason recently (BTW talk about $$$!) and he made some comments about Floyd covers. The one's he likes most are where someone has taken one of their songs and done something different with it. I tend to agree. If you simply try to slavishly copy the original you're generally on a hiding to nothing (though some of the Dream Theatre covers are damm impressive). You need to find a new angle. (His opinion of an old bloke with a wobble-board is not recorded.)

I heard somewhere that the most covered song (and how would anyone really know) is the the Beatles' Blackbird. That would have to be a good guess as I've lost count of how many jazz versions of that I've heard. It really is a standard.

True, the most interesting covers are when a completely different genre tackles songs!

If you like Lounge/Swing, try these:-

http://www.amazon.com/Rock-Swings-Pa.../dp/B0009A1BXG

Check "Smells like Teen Spirit"

EDIT:- dare we restart the conversation on "Stairways to Heaven"!

David, interesting that you mention Nick and Pink Floyd. I'm booked into the Melbourne concert of "Beyond the Darkside" in July - a complete recreation of the Pulse album - audibly and visually. I'm really looking forward to it!

David and Eric,

Nightwish's cover of High Hopes (live) is pretty impressive.

The best covers (they are kind of covers) are done by Weird Al, he's tops.

Cheers,
Jason.

What about Andrew Dentons "The Money or the Gun"
25 different versions of "Stairway to Heaven"
That was awesome.
Kick started Rolf Harris's career again didn't it. LOL

I started a new thread on cover versions. So we don't do a complete hijack here.
