Bert (avandonk) had his HEQ5 permanently set up in the middle of his back yard with just a bucket over it.

Ran faultlessly for years that way

My son thought it was a bucket drier when he saw it the 1st time

Wow. What a great lot of variations. I'm happy to hear that the tripods and mounts can survive extended outdoor living arrangements (with some type of cover).

I was wondering if people had tried using a silicon spray of any sort to protect the nuts and bolts from rust through moisture/humidity?

Once the bolts etc rust, replace them with new ones or with stainless steel ones.
My mount and telescope/camera is standing in the middle of my garden only covered with a bbq cover.
Hasn't missed a beat.
The only thing i have to do at night is connect my lappy and take the cover off (5 Min max).
Then set the exposures and go to bed
PPl here know they will be sorry if they enter my backyard
I am a very light sleeper when well rested
