No doubt I am a fan of "cooler" weather but this is a bit extreme...maybe if we average your weather and mine we can both be happy!

Hi Scott,

In fact it was so warm in Sydney on the weekend, a lot of us were forced
to go to the beach to swim and cool down. They predict the same thing
will happen again tomorrow on Australia Day. As you know, this whole having to go
to the beach thing is a big problem for Sydneysiders, what with all that productivity
lost with just having to lay out on a towel on the sand under a sea breeze,
punctuated by the occasional ice cold drink from the Esky and a dip in the
surf of the Pacific Ocean now and then. Think of all those person-hours lost.
You lived here, you know what it is like. It's a problem we just have to live with, I guess.

Take care!

Best Regards

Gary

Funny I was thinking the exact same thing. Really dreading tomorrow at the beach. (not)

You need to worry about UV exposure and sunburn. Scott doesn't.

You soft southerners!
I come from Canada and at "40* below zero, we button up our vests".
Ice burns our fingers and snow is our soft, white grass.
Minus 30 is merely bracing and -20 is ideal for a picnic.
Tch!

Seriously though. I think the world's record low temperature was recorded at Mt. Washington in Maine(?).
Something stupid like -90*. Cold enough to freeze one's eyeballs.
Best to remote everything and stay inside with a cup of cocoa.

We were just having the discussion last night on how to celebrate Australia Day...I suggested the beach (as is tradition) but my children rejected it due to the cold...maybe next year! I am ready for some productivity lose!

Enjoy the day, I'll be thinking of you all.

I was actually lamenting my "softness" just the other day. My kids were complaining about the short walk up the drive to catch the bus in the cold. I had to remind them when I was growing up in the Ice Age that we had to walk in the snow to school up hill both ways as buses had not been invented...and related.

The coldest naturally occurring temp - Vostok Station at -89.2 °C (-128.6 °F) on 1983-07-21. Canada wins for North America. Alaska stole the low temp record off the continental USA.

Mount Washington, New Hampshire holds one record.
Fastest recorded wind speed with an anemometer outside of a tropical cyclone: 372 km/h (231 mph) sustained 1-minute average on 1934-04-12.

One vaguely related record for Australia Day.

Barrow Island (Western Australia). Fastest recorded wind gust with an anemometer: 113.2 m/s or 407 km/h (253 mph) 3-second gust during Tropical Cyclone Olivia, 1996-04-10.

Kite flying anyone?
