I'm noticing a rather alarming trend in this thread.

There seems to be an awful lot of you carrying some sort of concealed weapon disguised as a tool or sports equipment. We live in australia, not downtown baghdad. I can't imagine what you're doing or where you're going that requires that sort of hardware.

Those " bit's of hardware " are to be " deployed " when one encounters a specimen who " displays " a serious overdose of " testosterone "....and wants to make you their " target ".

Often called " countermeasures " or " Attitude Adjusting " Tools.
Once shown to the " offending party " they generally pause and re-think or retreat yelling...I'm going to get my Big Brother on to you.

All BARK no BITE.

"tread softly and carry a big stick"

Unfortunately someone will always have a bigger stick, Plus if you pull it out, you better be prepared to use it because it just might be reused on you. The best thing to do is just walk away, this doesn't mean your weak just that your not prepared to go down to their level. But if it looks like you are going to be hurt, just make sure you get in first stick or no stick.

Even police here shoot first before asking questions

besides 200+ ks out from the civilised world is not ideal to be debating Hoons,
whereby flashing a repair tool conveys an instant TELEPATHIC communication.

A 1m length of hose pipe packed with lead sinkers is a handy bit of insurance in such cases but not as easily explained to constable plod as nunchucks. If they ask about those just tell them they are chinese can openers, they can't do much unless you state you intend to use them as a weapon.
