Thumbs up

Of all the forums of which I'm a member, I knew I'd get an answer here!

Eudynamys scolopacea aka Common Koel seems to be the closest fit based on my, blurred photograph, vague description and size.

I've also realised that I really need to learn how to use my camera

Loretta ??

Hi Geoff,

You asked us to name it. I'm calling it: Loretta.

It's a female Koel (called Loretta).

Best,

Les D

No....I meant the bird's name is "Dave"

I recognised him straight away, his chick is named "Loretta" which is why Les thought it was her....

It's definitely Dave.....know that bird anywhere...

Cheers

Cross-dressing bird

Hi Chris & All,

Unless Geoff's bird is a cross-dresser, its name isn't Dave.

The female Koel looks like this:

the males look like this:

definitely Loretta ...

It would appear that Loretta has left the neighbourhood.
I haven't heard her for the last 2 days so hope she's just relocated rather than met with fowl play.

[The main reason I started the thread was that birds, other than mynahs and the occasional wattle birds in the lilli pilli, are a rare event at my place. I sometimes hear, but not see, kookaburras and of course galahs - but then the galahs could be in another suburb and I'd still hear them]
