Maybe when the chinese make a losmandy G11 clone that is good enough to carry a 16" GSO dob, tracks well, and costs only 20 bucks.
Nah... Not in my lifetime.

How are you going to know Houghy? Was there a census taken before?
If so. I never saw it! So I'm not on it.
I have a 'Dob' mount and an 'AVD EQ Mount' (other)

Ah but if you look Ken closely you will see the trend mate - the eq mounts are increasing . with allowing for the stuff up on my behalf of not having alt az in the list and a few dobbers selected other before mike fixed that up, i would say that 14 eq's, say 18 or 19 dobs and about 8 or 9 alt az so far, now add a wedge to that alt azzers and you have an eqmount (sort of), therefore the eqer's will dominate the dobs (now this is when i dive into the trench and raise the flag and waive ).....................I mean even Mike has an EQ platform.....

Ken throughout the year there have been a few posts about what scope you have etc so a rough comparison can be made there
But we might make it a yearly censis item to take stock of what is what on the site to see the trend over a few years. so why not start now

While Myscope is a Dob, I use most of the other types to.
Eq3, Eq5, Astroscan, Fork Mount.
The Dob still rules though !

Interesting results, no surprize on the Dobs but ....
Imagine doing the same poll with the poor unsuspecting public.
I think the EQ3's and < would be the main scope mounts.
Not that they would be getting used much !
If only Shops like Australian Geographic would sell at least 1 dob in their lineup !
The number of people sticking with astronomy would increase 10 Fold !

The Dob to start, but if I'm still into this in 12 months, I'll be keeping my eyes firmly open for an EQ5 or 6, that can later be motorised

My Mead LX200 is still Alt~Az, standard fork set up, but a cusotm wedge is on the drawing board!
My 6inch Helios Skywatcher is on an EQ3, motorised, not the best in the world, but does the job.
My littl Borge, is on a modified porfessional movie camera moutn from the 1970's.... smooth and clean, it works a dream for manual sky work...in polar aliment ( the old dodgy eye alinged set up )
I'd love to get a EQ5 or 6 mount, with cleaned and calibrated gears... and driven by my notebook!!! for the refractors..but hey I'll dream on for now...The Losmandi's are just too far away from my bank balance!!
