I suggest you cut out the template with smaller radius (7" refers from centre of the hinge to the centre of the rod, plus you have to allow for elastic rebound) from wooden plank (used for shelving, 2~3 $ at Bunnings).
This is a bit of "trial and fail" approach... but it's very hard to predict the exact behaviour of that particular rod.
Then you use that to wrap the rod around.

Just to say how easy it is....
I used ¼" steel threaded rod on my Curved rod tracker & found that the 45 Kg gas cylinders gave exactly the correct radius required.
Just bent the 3 ft rod by hand & used the "best bit."

With a little help from a friend with a lathe, (for the bearing set-up), the whole thing was completed in 4 days.
